Publisher's Description

I want to be like this stretch of freshly cleared shore. At times I think, I’m ready. Let the waves wash over me. But then I catch myself running from the tide just before it happens . . .

New York editor Jen Gibbs knew when she bought Evan Hall’s next blockbuster book, it would change her career. She didn’t know it would change her life. But after being sent along on the European book tour, at Evan’s request, she has made a promise she’s not sure she can keep—she’s crossed professional lines and accepted Evan’s surprising engagement proposal. Now she’s scared to death. In Jen’s family, marriage represents the death of every dream a woman holds for herself.

Can the revelation of her mother’s long-held secret open the doors to Jen’s future and change her beliefs about life and love?

"Everything you want waits on the other side of fear". Truer words were never spoken, even if they did come out of a fortune cookie.

When Jen Gibbs's youngest sister, Lily Clarette interrupts a European book tour with the news that she is going to research their mother's family history, Jen almost gladly decides to postpone her fiance's spontaneous invitation to get married in Paris; choosing instead to accompany Lily to the coast of North Carolina. In spite of her love and devotion for Ethan, deep feelings of inadequacy nearly suffocate her thinking, twisted by memories from her harsh upbringing deep in the Carolina mountains; fears imbedded from the perverse form of religion practiced by a nearly cultish church.

Upon their arrival at the Outer Banks, Jen and Lily Clarette stumble through open doors of uninhibited sisterhood and Jen becomes convinced that just as the mighty ocean brings in unexpected treasure with every wave, her life might just be better if she releases her past, and trusts her future to the One who longs to surprise her with a myriad of blessings.

Lisa Wingate has penned a beautiful story using very few words.
