Watson was born in Wilson, NC, and now resides in Chesapeake, VA, with his wife of 36 years, Janice and their two daughters, Kelly and Melissa. He is a retired educator with a bachelor of science degree in history from Campbell College (now Campbell University) and a master's and advanced studies degree in educational administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
