The Red Door Inn #1, in the Prince Edward Island Dreams series, by Liz Johnson
A chance meeting…a kind offer...sometimes strangers come into our lives for a reason. Now Jack Sloane may be able to fulfill his promise to his wife, Rose, to open a B & B, with help from newcomer Marie Carrington and from his nephew Seth, and perhaps a few other people they encounter along the way. But they have only two months! Will they be able to pull everything together in time?

Series: Prince Edward Island Dreams
Seth Sloane didn't move three thousand miles to work on his uncle's B&B so he could babysit a woman with a taste for expensive antiques and a bewildering habit of jumping every time he brushes past her. He came to help restore the old Victorian--and to forget about the fiancée who broke his heart.
The only thing Marie and Seth agree on is that getting the Red Door Inn ready to open in just two months will take everything they've got. Can these two wounded souls find hope, healing, and perhaps a bit of romance on this beautiful island?
Step into the Red Door Inn, a lovely home away from home tucked along the north shore of fabled Prince Edward Island. It's a place where the wounded come to heal, the broken find forgiveness, and the lonely find a family. Won't you stay for the season?

The main characters are hurting badly from various real life situations. Healing takes place as together they renovate and work towards opening the Red Door Inn. I especially enjoyed reading about Marie choosing paint colours, quilts and antique furniture for the inn. An interesting story with painful struggles, romance and happy endings!

You are calling my name.
The Red Door Inn by Liz Johnson is a refreshing, entertaining contemporary romance novel about Gods love, kindness, and tender mercy to one of His daughters who needs a safe place.
Marie Carrington from Boston goes to Prince Edward Island for safety. She finds more in this safe haven than she ever imagined. Love and true friendships await her in the midst of island breezes, fun times, and plain, hard work on a bed and breakfast.
At the center of this novel we have this cozy bed and breakfast called The Red Door Inn. Marie is the decorator, Seth Sloane, the renovator; and Seths uncle, Jack Sloane, the owner, is the glue that keeps everything together. This successful team works well together, after a rocky start getting the bed and breakfast up and running. Hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts, and any hospitality areas are among my top favorite subjects to read. This subject is what mainly drew me to read this novel. Theres something exciting and invigorating about this environment and The Red Door Inn invites us to take part in this adventure.
Marie Carrington is a lovely heroine and I like how she is different than the majority of fiction heroines. She is a quiet, introverted woman, but can be more outgoing and light on occasion. Marie carries a burden that weighs on her emotionally and causes her to have panic attacks. My heart hurt for her pain and struggles. Liz Johnson writes in a respectful manner and with a tenderness that draws the reader to empathize with victims in these situations.
Decorating spaces is Maries talent. Her decorating abilities are inspiring. I am not a decorator, but reading about her job makes me want to try my hand at staging a room or home. Some authors never let us travel with the characters to work, but this one does! I enjoyed Ms. Johnsons allowing us to visit the antique store and attend an auction with the heroine. These kind of scenes help us get to know the character and feel a part of the action in the novel.
Seth Sloane [Every time I read that last name I think of Charlie Sloane of Anne of Green Gables] the hero, is a great guy. Of course he is handsome and muscular, but I like how he wasnt immediately attracted to Marie and vice versa. It gave the reader something to look forward to when they realized that they did love each other. They had to get to know one another first and werent half in love because of looks. Another thing I appreciated is how Seth acts like a normal guy. He isnt perfect and does not automatically read the heroines thoughts. Seth also isnt educated in the art of decorating in the least and wants his own cinnamon roll. :) (Read the book and you will find out about the cinnamon rolls.)
Good friends are difficult to gain and keep, but the supporting characters in The Red Door Inn are the true kind. Jack, Aretha, and Caden each bring their individual talents and light to the lives of the community. Liz Johnson made them interesting without taking center stage.
Liz Johnson has let us be a part of this entertaining adventure and I look forward to the next books in this series with anticipation. The Red Door Inn is waiting for us to procure a room, partake of a delicious repast, and experience pleasurable relaxation at our home away from home.
Fitzysmom4 Stars Out Of 5Review from Rambles of a SAHMJune 23, 2016FitzysmomQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4The Red Door Inn is my first Liz Johnson novel, but I am sure it will not be my last. I was drawn to the book because the setting is Prince Edward Island . . . remember Anne of Green Gables? I thought it would be a nice soothing and uplifting story just like its predecessor. It was, but the story line wasn't the same at all.
Marie Carrington is scared and running from something. Her plan of getting to Prince Edward Island and disappearing is unraveling. Just when all seems lost an angel appears in the form of Jack Sloane. Jack not only makes a way for Marie to get to PEI, but also offers her a job and shelter once she's there.
The only problem seems to be Jack's nephew Seth. He's very skeptical of Marie and isn't shy about making his feelings known. The two are like oil and water but both adore Jack and try to find a middle ground to keep from hurting Jack.
As the story unfolds we learn more about why Jack is opening the inn and why Marie is running. The story has a gentle feel yet it contains serious subjects. I enjoyed reading about how Jack's faith carried him through some impossible situations and how that faith is spilling over onto Marie and Seth.
This book left me once again wanting to make a trip to PEI. I look forward to the next book and the continuing story of these engaging characters.

Pam Graber5 Stars Out Of 5Finding Hope on Prince Edward IslandMay 4, 2016Pam GraberQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Readers will discover hope for the hurting, joy for the broken, and romance for the lonely at the enchanting Red Door Inn. - Goodreads
When Marie Carrington meets the elderly Jack Sloane, she doesnt have enough money in her pocket for a meal at the ferry terminal let alone a ticket for the boat. She is desperate to get to Prince Edward Island, a place she sees as a sanctuary where she can hide. Wounded and heartsick, Marie jumps any time someone touches her and goes into full-on panic mode if its a man. Jack sees someone he can help and finds that telling her about his inn on the island has a calming effect. Plus, the more he talks to her, the more he discovers that she knows her stuff where design is concerned. He offers her a ticket and a place to stay if she will help get his inn ready to open in two months. Her job is to decorate. His nephew, Seth, is taking care of the renovations.
Seth Sloane travelled across a continent to renovate his uncles B&B. After losing everything business, money, home to his conniving fianc, Seth has no use for beautiful, helpless-looking women and Marie fits that description to a tee. He cannot believe that his uncle brought her into his home and basically gave her carte blanche to do what she wants to make the place ready for guests. The only reason he lets her stay? She convinces Jack that the color he just put on the dining room walls is more likely to turn stomachs than to make them want to share a meal there. Seth decides Marie can stay but he keeps a suspicious eye on every penny she spends.
Can Seth see past his own pain and anger to the pain Marie is covering? Will Maries stay at The Red Door Inn heal her heart and give her the courage she needs to stand against her past?
SighI was sad to see this book end! I loved the characters and the way the author developed them throughout the story. I felt Maries pain from the very start of the book and rejoiced with her as she began to show signs of healing. Seth and Jack and Aretha Franklin (no relation to the singer) and Caden Holt all had their own stories of walking through pain and grief. Each story was different but the resulting heartache was the same, creating a space for connection for the characters.
I really look forward to the next book in the Prince Edward Island Dreams series (coming Fall 2016 according to the back of this book.) Ive read some of Liz Johnsons Love Inspired Suspense books so I knew I liked her author style. Readers who love a good romance will LOVE this book. I know I did!
Jen PenMidwest4 Stars Out Of 5Dreams do come true at The Red Door Inn...April 27, 2016Jen PenMidwestQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4SUMMARY:
Each struggling with their own hurt, heartache, pain and loss, Marie Carrington, Jack Sloane and his nephew Seth Sloane, find themselves working together towards the same goal, even if it is not quite clear in the beginning. Through mistrust, hard work, healing and ultimately shared dreams, each contributes to the Bed and Breakfast known as The Red Door Inn in unique ways. While completing the Inn, many heart-warming moments occur while some deeper issues are resolved with the common themes of fatherly love and trust woven throughout
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Loving the idea behind this book, I found the story and themes very absorbing, with the characters pleasing to meet. Staying true to the local characteristics of Prince Edward Island, author Liz Johnson writes a successful novel different from her usual genre of romantic suspense. Though not a fast paced nor complex storyline, it hummed along and was quite enjoyable. As book 1 in the Prince Edward Island Dreams series, the peek at the characters sure to be involved in the next book was enough to pique my interest already in book 2, Where Two Hearts Meet, set to release in fall of this year.
