very, very disappointed... this was so boring I did not even finish the disc... the group discussion is boring, the participantes are boring,, in what I watched they presented their views and there was no theological rebuttal, please, please, give me my money back
I believe Keller achieves what he set out to do, and perhaps more. The discourses on the various subjects have contributed to my thinking. But I think his approach to the skeptics is equally valuable. I have learned from the dvd what I would not have learned from the book.
I think one important aspect of the discussion is to give the best possible voice to objections rather than build straw men to knock down. Another value of the dvd is the emphasis on the gentle approach to answering objections.
This video is a wonderful explanation of common issues non-believers have with Christianity. It is useful, demonstrating how to avoid polarization and churchy language. I have used it with multiple groups and all have found it informative and engaging.
I was expecting some well thought-out answers to some big questions... Perhaps even some unique perspective on the conclusions most Christians have already reached on these questions. Instead I watched non-Christians offer their predictable views on the various subjects. This was then concluded by Mr. Keller finishing by offering his less than engaging points to ponder.
I used this material this past summer with a small group of young adult Christians. We were captivated by the video segments, and we had a difficult time cutting off the discussions each night. What I find especially helpful in this presentation is how Keller modeled an uncompromising and yet very gracious witness style that quickly created a sense of safe environment for his participants to share their objections. It was fascinating to see the members of his group warm up to Keller, and become increasingly less defensive and more open to consider what Keller had to say. I can't say enough good about this material. We decided to continue meeting with another of Keller's series.
