Publisher's Description
▼▲Hope is a chicken who lives in the woods with friends not typically affiliated with chickens. She is happy there, until she finds herself with an egg. She has no place to rest the egg and is in search of help. A guardian red bird leads her to a chicken house full of chicken families. There she finds challenges and fear, ultimately leading to the most precious gift she could ever hope for. The Rainbow Egg is a colorfully illustrated, fresh look at adoption as a loving gift.

The Rainbow Egg is a children's book that deals with adoption in an unusual story. The drawings are child-like and should capture the attention of young readers.
When Hope finds herself with an egg, she is determined to take it everywhere with her. She doesn't make a nest for it and instead tries to find ways to carry it, but the egg is just so difficult for her to carry.
One day she comes across a chicken house full of chickens with nests full of eggs. There is no one willing to take Hope's egg, but just as she is getting ready to leave she notices a nest with no eggs. Mr. and Mrs. Rainbow don't have any eggs even though they want some. Just as Hope offers her egg to the Rainbows it hatches. The Rainbows are touched by Hope's gift and Hope is touched by the Rainbow's joy over the baby chick that she has given them.
This is a book that may be helpful in explaining adoption to children, especially to those under 5. Older children may have issues with a bird running around carrying an egg especially the whole time that chick is in the egg (most children where I live - farming community know about chickens and the more than 20 days of incubation in an egg).
I was provided a copy of this title by the publisher in digital format through BookSneeze for the purpose of this review. All opinions expressed are my own.
