The Race of the Tortoise, by Michael L. Haynes and Natalia N. Karpova, is a title inspired by the tortoise in Aesop's fable "The Tortoise and the Hare." This is a story of overcoming the grief that results from the death of a loved one. The process of restoration and finding something wonderful through love requires faith and perseverance similar to that of the tortoise in his race with the hare. Mike lost his wife and high school sweetheart to cancer in 2008, and Natasha lost her mother, who was her best friend, to a stroke in 2010. Her father and brother died a few years earlier. Out of the loss, God created a new and wonderful love story. Michael "Mike" Haynes is a Southern Baptist volunteer missionary to Zavolzhie, Russia, and a member of the Red Bank Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States. Mike has two sons, two daughters-in-law, and six grandchildren. He is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. Natalia "Natasha" Karpova serves as a language translator for Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF). She is a member of Zavolzhie Baptist Church of Christ the Savior. She married Mike in October of 2011. She graduated from the Linguistic University in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, and the CEF Leadership Training Institute in Switzerland. Natasha has a master of divinity from Tyndale Theological Seminary in the Netherlands and a master of theology from Evangelische Theologische Faculteit in Belgium.
