Well your wait is over. Steven James has out did himself again. The Queen is another great thriller in the Patrick Bowers Thriller series. The Queen pretty much starts (give a few months or so) form where The Bishop ended. Patrick is on the case of another major crime. Tessa is trying to deal and cope with the all the stuff that took place in the previous book. Add in a few new characters mixed with the old and you get another great story! One thing about this book is... it's not as gory as the last one.(if you are the faint at heart you will appreciate this) So what's the story line. Well here it is:
While investigating a mysterious double homicide in an isolated northern Wisconsin town, FBI Special Agent Patrick Bowers uncovers a high-tech conspiracy that ties together long-buried Cold War secrets with present-day tensions in the Middle East.
In his most explosive thriller yet, bestselling author Steven James delivers a pulse-pounding, multilayered storytelling tour de force that will keep you guessing.
The Queen is the latest Patrick Bowers thriller from the author Publishers Weekly calls a "master storyteller at the peak of his game."
If you are a mystery lover, than you are going to love this book. It has the thrill of the hunt action that will keep you guessing! If I gave out stars on how I liked a book than I would give it 5 stars..... it was that good!

And Tessa. There's always concerns about what might happen to her.
This book has your adrenaline all over the place. There's things happening everywhere, and everyone's in on the act.
Don't read this right before bedtime. You'll be too wired to sleep for a day or two.
CKendall5 Stars Out Of 5The Queen by Steven JamesSeptember 14, 2011CKendallQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I read The Bishop a while back and really enjoyed it. I'm pretty picky when it comes to books like this because it is not my favorite genre, but there are a few authors that I feel excel at writing suspense, and Steven James is one of those authors. One of my absolute requirements when it comes to suspense novels is they have to grab me right away. If there is no immediate excitement, there is very little chance that I will like the book. I remember how quickly The Bishop grabbed me, so deciding whether or not to read The Queen was a no-brainer.
This book did not fail to get my attention. There is nothing I like better than a good bad guy. That actually sounds weird, but you know what I mean. Equally important is the hero. I love the Jack Bauer type of hero and Steven James has created a great hero with Patrick Bowers. The tie-in with the very real Cold War and the very real problems with the Middle East made this book feel very real, and scary. I loved that!
This book may be a rather intimidating 516 pages long, but it does not feel like a long book. I read this book much faster than I thought I would. It was a difficult read to put down because Steven writes in a way that makes me want to keep reading. The chapters are short, so I kept telling myself "just one more chapter", but I would keep on reading. I highly recommend this book. I didn't start reading this series from the beginning, but I have never felt lost. These books could easily be stand alone books, so don't worry if you are new to the series. Just have fun!

He might have to admit to profiler tactics!
While tracking down one serial killer, Patrick (Pat) is called to investigate a double murder/possible suicide in northern Wisconsin. There's not enough evidence to determine the specifics. While into that investigation, he falls headlong into another that involves high-tech hacking using Cold War secrets and today's technology, and additional abductions and murders by another killer.
Steven James' fast-paced scenarios keep your brain in a top-notch thinking mode throughout his complete novel, The Queen. You get to think right along with him, trying to figure out if some, all or none of the investigations intersect. And if they do, how?
He also includes a mixed bag of circumstances that include romantic tension, an anxious, sleep-deprived teenager, and a full-blown blizzard (only Northerners can grip the meaning of that!).
Steven's characters are real and personal. Some are dangerous and conniving, others willing to kill to meet their goals, all appear secretive, and many are vulnerable. You will find yourself getting involved with an emotional, personal episode, only to have Pat's job jerk him away, deserting them to handle more abductions and murders, leaving you with gaping, open wounds involving the previous characters. It becomes personal!
The technology aspect is well-organized and delineated by the author, so as not to lose your attention. The historical information comes alive as the old meets with the new in the tensions of the Middle East as only Steven can pull it together.
The ending will blow your mind! I may have picked up on a little, but I totally missed the unbelievable ending. A classic Steven James style! Reading Steven's book will keep you up at night-it's very addictive. The hard part now is to wait for his next book!!!
Although this is a very intriguing, dangerous and suspenseful book, my favorite is still The Bishop. But don't miss any in his series!
