Series: Watchers Chronicles
An event that changed five teens lives and could alter the future of the world. Sam Becker has been suffering nightmares and waking up to disturbing paintings he doesnt recall creating. Hes also plagued by an inability to remember his childhood and the details of a night that changed him forever. When he encounters spiteful, fallen angels who are intent on destroying him, the vital memories return and it is clear he and his childhood friends are in grave danger. When Sam contacts Jonah, Carly, Jenna, and J, it becomes clear they too are suffering the same nightmares. Sam summons them to St. Louis where they find they are Watcherspart of a prophecy that will help end a war between fallen angels intent on destroying humanity and the guardian angel forces of heaven. Their Watcher gift allows them to see what rages around them, but when the fallen discover the Watchers abilities are growing, the five are placed in mortal danger and all may not survive.
The book is well-written overall. It specializes in suspense, mystery, and a superhero vocabulary, all of which suit it well. However, it begins at a point of high intensity and only builds from there, with few, if any, rests for the characters. It is clear that the five are extremely close, but the reader doesnt quite get the depths of the relationship yet, which is appropriate for the first book in a series. The entire book is unforgettable, particularly the sequences during which they begin to remember their past together and Jonahs epiphany at the end of the book.
Sam, Jonah, J, Jenna, and Carly are living in terror. Inseparable when they were younger, they have now been scattered across the country, and each is experiencing terrible nightmares, seeing people who seem to be invisible to others, and a frightening memory loss of the time they spent together when they were younger. When Sam reunites them, they learn that as Watchers, it is their duty to fight the evil spirits that have awakened and now threaten to take over their world. They must learn to trust a God theyve stopped believing in if they want to survive.
Though the author divides her attention, giving the reader bits from each of the five main characters, she seems to center on Jonah, Sams brother. The reader gets the impression that Jonah was once good and could be again, but he is being held back. This character is very real and reacts to his situation believably. He proves again and again that he alone is nothing special, and it is only because God is working in him that he accomplishes the things he does. The other characters are at various levels of messed up in the worlds terms, and they complement Jonah very well. The relationships are not neat and perfect, but realistically rocky in places.
Overall, The Prophecy is a strong beginning for a promising series. I would recommend this thriller to those who are teens or older, though it might be a little scary for young children. Rebekah R. Blomenberg, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Although it was written for a younger audience, I really got into it. It was fast paced, creepy, but not creepy to the point where I had to keep the dog inside with me. The plot line was well written, I didn't find really any big holes there. It was a great book for parents who have kids into all the worlds paranormal stuff, because this does have a christian theme running through it.

By Dawn Miller
Reality is merely an illusion ~ Albert Einstein
Something sinister was after them, something that only they could see. Something from their past. But the memory from childhood - 7 years earlier was buried- buried deep. Will they remember what has been forgotten in time to save themselves?
Jonah Becker's world has gone from bad to worse. His parents were murdered. His brother, Sam is dead. And now someone or something is out to kill him and his friends. Jonah and his friends are caught in the endless struggle between good and evil because they have a special gift - the gift of sight!
The first six chapters seem slow as the key characters are introduced, but the story quickly draws you in with each successive chapter. When THE PROPHECY ends you are left wanting more.
This book will appeal to young adult readers who want a book with a supernatural twist while still dealing with real life situations that teens face. Some of the issues that are dealt with include drugs, alcohol, teen parents, and gangs.
This is a "can't put it down book," and perfect for a long weekend!
Sheila Bush5 Stars Out Of 5July 26, 2010Sheila BushMy daughter loved it! But you do have to stick to reading it at the beginning because you don't really know what's going on because of lack of full information. It's a true mystery and you have to use what info it gives to figure out what's happened! She is asking for another book like it or in the same series. We're going to look for one!!!
