The Promise of Rayne, by Nicole Deese
Rayne Shelby's family owns Shelby Lodge, a forty three room redwood estate that looks like an illustration out of a fairy tale book. It is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains in Idaho. She would like to manage the lodge. When she makes a mistake that puts her future at risk, she asked her neighbor Levi Harding for help. He is the apprentice of the man that owns Winslow's Orchard and Farm. The two families have been feuding for years. Wild fires threaten their town and livelyhood. Can these two work together to end the feud before they lose everything?

Rayne Shelby has spent her entire life trying to earn the approval of her high-powered family, with the hope of one day managing her late grandfather’s prestigious Idaho lodge. But when she makes a mistake that puts her future in jeopardy, she faces an impossible choice: defy her family or deny her dream. The only way to fix the mess she’s created is to enlist the help of her neighbor, Levi, the apprentice of her family’s greatest enemy. And if Rayne gets caught crossing the divided property lines, the consequences will be irreparable.
Levi Harding has never forgotten the August night he shared with Rayne when they were teens—or the way she later rejected him. Despite his warring instincts, he can’t ignore her plea for help or the spark that’s ignited between them. But now, as wildfires bear down on their town and family secrets are revealed, their newfound alliance might just go up in smoke.
KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5StunningDecember 29, 2016KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Mercy -- I was so engrossed in this novel that I barely took time to breathe. Toe-curling romance, tummy-tied-in-knots angst, soul-stirring inspiration. The best way to enjoy this story is to totally immerse yourself in it...and don't come up for air until you reach the end!
Rayne captured my heart from the get go even though I wanted to shake some sense into her more than once. But she's a product of her upbringing and, like all of us, her views and opinions have been formed by her family, skewed though they may be. And if that isn't enough, her sense of self-worth relies heavily on what certain family members think about her. And it just seems like she can't do anything right.
Then there's Levi. Free-spirited, hard working and dashingly attractive. He's full of life and laughter and determination. And while he nurses some resentment towards Rayne for rejecting him in the past, there's no denying that she intrigues him in the present. And, oh goodness, does it get complicated! The romantic tension between these two is exquisite. A five fan alert to cope with all that delicious emotional overload.
Deese expertly does a slow-reveal of a past shrouded in mystery. I couldn't read fast enough to get all the facts! Family legacy is at the heart of this story -- how our actions shape the next generation's future. Whether that legacy is formed out of bitterness or forgiveness makes all the difference to the future. Sobering and inspiring.
A deeply satisfying novel that digs deep. Simply stunning.
Melony Teague5 Stars Out Of 5Put aside time for this one.November 23, 2016Melony TeagueQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Promise of Rayne is one of those where you might want to clear your schedule! I mean, the last few chapters are just so gripping, and totally wonderfully unpredictable. and best wishes to you if you think you can start reading it and put it down, and you know, finish it later! Hahaha! Don't say I didn't warn you
But seriously, this book, it took me a day or two to recover enough to write my review. Rayne is sweet and has such a heart of gold, but she is caught up in a web of lies and has to break through the tangled web of lies and deceit to free herself enough to see the truth and when that truth comes, it is powerful! Levi is a-ma-zing too but aside from the romance in the book, Nicole Deese has woven this story in such a way that you will find yourself thinking about these characters long after the book has been read and returned to the shelf. I was deeply touched by the theme of this book and without giving anything away, my admiration for a certain character, who becomes the true hero of this book, is strong and true. Kind of reminds me of how God sees us, and reminds me of how much we are loved.
Another thing, the cover! Yes the cover is beautiful, and even better: it is only once you have read the book that you truly appreciate the imagery on the cover.
Kate5 Stars Out Of 5Stunning!November 12, 2016KateQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Promise of Rayne by Nicole Deese is a stunning must read. From the beginning, I was swept into the lives of Rayne and Levi, characters who refused to leave my mind even as their story ended.
This is the first book of Deese's that I have had the honor of reading - and it won't be the last. What attracted me most to her writing is her ability to create diverse and multidimensional characters that come alive before your eyes. And through these characters Deese weaves a beautiful theme of grace planted in a plot fraught with deep rooted family secrets with an imminent threat to their livelihoods. With expertly timed tension, riveting dialogue, and humor amid drama, this story is one I will not forget.
I'm sincerely hoping this is not the last I will see of these characters. I have a suspicion there is much more of the story to tell, and I am eagerly awaiting its release!

CMD1Age: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5So good!November 11, 2016CMD1Age: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5A forbidden relationship, family secrets, forest fires... I didn't need to see the author's name on the cover to make me want to read this book. But since Nicole Deese's name was on it, I knew from past reading experience that I wouldn't be disappointed. And I wasn't. But that's about the only emotion I didn't experience while reading The Promise of Rayne.
This book tapped into so many of them: anticipation of a good story; happiness that it was finally on my Kindle; appreciation for an opening that instantly grabbed my imagination and attention; hope for Levi and Rayne who had so many things and people against them; anger at Rayne's family--for a while there, I really hated a couple of them!(wink)--despair at the worsening circumstances; but finally, finally, joy and deep satisfaction over the resolution and happy ending.
This is a wonderful love story, but it's more than that. It's a tale of secrets, betrayal, and bitterness conquered by mercy, forgiveness, and redemption.
The author draws a wonderful picture of hope and restoration that resounded deeply with me. I went from wanting to shake some secondary characters until their teeth rattled to being willing to show them some mercy and understanding. And for the first three quarters of the book, I thought that would be impossible. (grin) But this story surprised me. In such a good way!
I love a great romance, but Levi and Rayne's story is something extra special. Whether you've read a book by Nicole Deese before or not, you're in for a treat when you read The Promise of Rayne. This is more than just a feel-good story--though it is definitely that--it is a story that resonates the type of Christianity we should live out every day!
