Rayne Shelby's family owns Shelby Lodge, a forty three room redwood estate that looks like an illustration out of a fairy tale book. It is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains in Idaho. She would like to manage the lodge. When she makes a mistake that puts her future at risk, she asked her neighbor Levi Harding for help. Publisher's Description

Rayne Shelby has spent her entire life trying to earn the approval of her high-powered family, with the hope of one day managing her late grandfather’s prestigious Idaho lodge. But when she makes a mistake that puts her future in jeopardy, she faces an impossible choice: defy her family or deny her dream. The only way to fix the mess she’s created is to enlist the help of her neighbor, Levi, the apprentice of her family’s greatest enemy. And if Rayne gets caught crossing the divided property lines, the consequences will be irreparable.

Levi Harding has never forgotten the August night he shared with Rayne when they were teens—or the way she later rejected him. Despite his warring instincts, he can’t ignore her plea for help or the spark that’s ignited between them. But now, as wildfires bear down on their town and family secrets are revealed, their newfound alliance might just go up in smoke.

The Promise of Rayne is one of those where you might want to clear your schedule! I mean, the last few chapters are just so gripping, and totally wonderfully unpredictable. and best wishes to you if you think you can start reading it and put it down, and you know, finish it later! Hahaha! Don't say I didn't warn you

    BOOK HANGOVER

But seriously, this book, it took me a day or two to recover enough to write my review. Rayne is sweet and has such a heart of gold, but she is caught up in a web of lies and has to break through the tangled web of lies and deceit to free herself enough to see the truth and when that truth comes, it is powerful! Levi is a-ma-zing too but aside from the romance in the book, Nicole Deese has woven this story in such a way that you will find yourself thinking about these characters long after the book has been read and returned to the shelf. I was deeply touched by the theme of this book and without giving anything away, my admiration for a certain character, who becomes the true hero of this book, is strong and true. Kind of reminds me of how God sees us, and reminds me of how much we are loved.

Another thing, the cover! Yes the cover is beautiful, and even better: it is only once you have read the book that you truly appreciate the imagery on the cover.

The Promise of Rayne by Nicole Deese is a stunning must read. From the beginning, I was swept into the lives of Rayne and Levi, characters who refused to leave my mind even as their story ended.

This is the first book of Deese's that I have had the honor of reading - and it won't be the last. What attracted me most to her writing is her ability to create diverse and multidimensional characters that come alive before your eyes. And through these characters Deese weaves a beautiful theme of grace planted in a plot fraught with deep rooted family secrets with an imminent threat to their livelihoods. With expertly timed tension, riveting dialogue, and humor amid drama, this story is one I will not forget.

I'm sincerely hoping this is not the last I will see of these characters. I have a suspicion there is much more of the story to tell, and I am eagerly awaiting its release!

A forbidden relationship, family secrets, forest fires... I didn't need to see the author's name on the cover to make me want to read this book. But since Nicole Deese's name was on it, I knew from past reading experience that I wouldn't be disappointed. And I wasn't. But that's about the only emotion I didn't experience while reading The Promise of Rayne.

This book tapped into so many of them: anticipation of a good story; happiness that it was finally on my Kindle; appreciation for an opening that instantly grabbed my imagination and attention; hope for Levi and Rayne who had so many things and people against them; anger at Rayne's family--for a while there, I really hated a couple of them!(wink)--despair at the worsening circumstances; but finally, finally, joy and deep satisfaction over the resolution and happy ending.

This is a wonderful love story, but it's more than that. It's a tale of secrets, betrayal, and bitterness conquered by mercy, forgiveness, and redemption.

The author draws a wonderful picture of hope and restoration that resounded deeply with me. I went from wanting to shake some secondary characters until their teeth rattled to being willing to show them some mercy and understanding. And for the first three quarters of the book, I thought that would be impossible. (grin) But this story surprised me. In such a good way!

I love a great romance, but Levi and Rayne's story is something extra special. Whether you've read a book by Nicole Deese before or not, you're in for a treat when you read The Promise of Rayne. This is more than just a feel-good story--though it is definitely that--it is a story that resonates the type of Christianity we should live out every day!

This book deserves more than the allowable 5 stars. It truly does. The Promise of Rayne is one of the best books of 2016, in my opinion. I've read several of Nicole Deese's books before and when this one came out, I knew that I would want to read it based on her earlier novels. It is profound in its depth of emotion, characterization and God's grace.

Secrets have been kept for 18 long years in the Shelby family and now those secrets are beginning to affect lives. But those who know the secrets are bound by promises of silence. You can read the synopsis for yourself without me taking space for it here.

I love it when an author engages my emotions at the very beginning of a book and continues to draw me in further with each page I read. It's almost as if these characters have just jumped off the pages of the book and sat in the room with me as I read. Deese has truly plumbed the depth of human emotions with her characters. I felt the hurt so incredibly deeply in my heart as I read. I marveled at the grace other characters poured out to ones that I felt didn't deserve that grace. But that's what God does: He gives grace to us when we never deserved it and never will. That's because He's a good God. Truly, I was ministered to by this book for a particular situation I am dealing with in my own life.

The Promise of Rayne is a wonderful book, astounding and profound and one that you won't soon forget after closing the pages of the book, one that is destined to be read again. I enjoyed it tremendously.
