Rune lives in Norway with his pregnant wife Signe and their three boys. He receives a letter from his aunt and uncle inviting he and his family to come live with them in Minnesota and promises them land of their own. They take english speaking classes and make the voyage leaving behind the only life they know. They are demanding expecting them work hard and repay the cost of their voyage.
