Tell us a little about yourself. I am married and the father of 4 daughters and a son. I have been a RN for 28 years and currently a nurse manager for a pediatric triage call center.
What was your motivation behind this project? I had always wanted to do something for my children that I could dedicate to them and leave as a legacy for them and I believe this book is that. I am not a writer, nor did I ever have the ambition to write a book. About ten years before this book was completed God gave me the idea for this book and at Christmas that same year, my brother, also not a writer, was visiting and he told me he felt the need to write a book. I told him the message I had received from God and we immediately knew what we had to do. The journey began as a joint venture. My brother lives on the east coast and with me in Texas this gradually became a solo effort. This book was totally inspired by God evidenced by the fact the story poured out of me for several chapters until I came to a point about half way and I just stopped writing. I knew the whole story, but I was stuck on how to move past a certain major point in the adventure. Then one night about four in the morning, without even thinking about this book for several years, I had a very vivid dream of exactly how the story was to continue. I woke up with the certainty that God had just given me the rest of the story and immediately began writing and finished the book in the next few days as the story, once again, began pouring from me.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? This story is targeted for children to help them understand how easy it is to fall under the weight of peer pressure. The terrible consequences that arise and the fact that no matter how bad things become and how far we fall our Father forgives and will lift us up.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? All of my children have either actually been bullied or have witnessed their friends be bullied by other children at school. These bullies always have a gang of followers that wreak their havoc on the innocent. I have always talked to my children about being leaders for what is right and in doing so they often crossed paths with these bullies. I wanted this story to inspire them and to let them know it is not easy, but they will overcome with the help from God.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I just pray that anyone who reads this book, young and old alike, will be blessed by God to have the strength to make good decisions among all the peer pressure that begins early in childhood and really never goes away.
