The battle is real and this book is a great encouragement to read about it. The book draws you into the characters and situations that they face and it keeps you reading as they face things that are sometimes scary and sometimes funny. This book is very imaginative, creative, and inspiring. If you are looking for a great chapter book read on the Spiritual war around us and the need for putting on the Armor of God, I recommend this one. We are looking forward to reading more in this series.

Nine year old Evan Blake and his big brother Xavier, fourteen, have recently moved from their apartment in the city to a house in the country. The brothers are used to battling each other, but now they discover that there is a much bigger battle going on all around them, and it is not just with the bully Landon at the Rec Center. With their new friends Levi Arthur (12), Brianna Turner (11), and Manuel Santos (12), they enter a mysterious land called Ahoratos. There they meet their guide, Ruwach, who offers wisdom and direction as the kids initial adventure begins. They are given special armor, and each one is told to follow the light of his or her own breastplate to reach a distant castle by different ways.

However, Levi decides to set out on his own instead of following the correct path, and unfortunately there are temptation and danger from a very real enemy along the way for all the children. What will happen to Levi? Can the youngsters reach their goal? And will they ever be able to return home? Based on Ephesians 6:1018, The Prince Warriors, which I saw advertised on a homeschool website, is obviously an allegory, and I would suggest an excellent one, of the spiritual battle between good and evil that takes place in our hearts. Ruwach tells the kids, Ahoratos is the real world. The world you live in day to daythat world is but a shadow of the Real World. This is the world where the battles rage, where your real enemy lies.

Intended for middle-grade children or tweens, the plot moves along quickly with lots of excitement, a perfect combination for reluctant readers. Furthermore, it illustrates a number of important principles, such as the need to resist temptation, the blessing of forgiveness when we repent after making a terrible mistake, and showing kindness to others even when they might be mean to us. Nothing truly objectionable occursthe euphemistic term gosh appears once. The book is the first of an epic new fiction trilogy that was created to bring to life the invisible struggle ensuing in the spiritual realm. Book 2 is entitled The Prince Warriors and the Unseen Invasion, and Book 3, The Prince Warriors and the Swords of Rhema, is due out in 2017.

I bought it for an age group of 10-12 year-olds and it suits that age very well. The story is full of action and adventure, effectively putting an imagination to work, with meanings that are clear and biblically grounded. This book brings so many New Testament principals to life in an extremely exciting way!

This book is phenomenal! I read this to our four children (3 boys and a girl ages 6-14) this summer. They couldn't get enough and neither could I! Excellent teaching tool about the real battles we all face every day if we will only take a step back and really see! Priscilla does a fantastic job relating to kids and disclosing the true spiritual battles that take place around us all. I had my children read Ephesians 6:10-18 many times before we would start in on the next chapter. They even drew pictures of what the armor might look like. The website, www.theprincewarriors.com is also very helpful and engaging. We have started using the free app for the devotional too. Most importantly, they have started to recognize how the enemy sneaks in and tries to attack in real world situations. My children can't wait for the second and third book to be released! They are fully engaged and I am eternally grateful! I highly recommend this book to kids and adults. Remember your true enemy! We are battle ready!

This review was written for The Prince Warriors: A Novel.
The Prince Warriors opens with brothers Xavier and Evan being typical brothers, which means sibling rivalry on steroids. There is an age gap and personality difference in the two that makes them sometimes appear to be like oil and water. Their conflicts are an ongoing thing until one day they are mysteriously transported into the unseen world. There they must learn to not only work together but fight side-by-side using the armor that they have been equipped with.

This novel is a must read for middle-grade boys (and girls too!). It is a fast-paced epic saga that captures the adventurous essence of boys while subtly teaching the importance of fighting the true enemy. I enjoyed the overall story. I found it entertaining and even downright funny at times. (I loved the momma!) But what I appreciated the most was the spiritual focus of putting on the full armor of God to fight the ultimate battle.

So many times we get caught up in fighting with those that aren't really our enemy. We see our kids in constant battles with each other. We see fellow Christians battling it out over doctrinal differences. All the while there is a more important battle being waged in the unseen realm that truly is life and death. The Prince Warriors uses those very facts to remind the reader of the importance of standing strong.

I would recommend this to any family that has boys. It is written to appeal to their need to be warriors. I do think that adventurous girls would enjoy it as well. I did. I think it would be a wonderful book to read aloud as a family. It would be entertaining and also teach a very valuable life lesson. That's a win-win.
