Not a lot of people I know agree, but I feel one of the most important things a parent can do for their child is read to them and encourage them to read books often. Because of this importance, I decided to read this tale to see if this was something I'd like to read to my future kids. This story, written by Dr. R.C. Sproul, is great because it is a short story which creatively presents the gospel message.
The Priest with Dirty Clothes, is an allegorical tale about a priest who is ordered to speak before the King of the land. The Priest is on his way to the castle when a windy rain storm rocks his horse carriage to the point where his formal clothes are knocked into the mud. His clothes are dirty and he is not presentable before the King, and he desires this problem to be resolved without getting in trouble. The Priest with Dirty Clothes is an allegory of Zechariah 3:1-5 and the importance of what Jesus did for us; a simple presentation of the gospel message. I really liked the illustrations done by Justin Gerard especially the choice of colors and detail of scenery. I also feel the words are not difficult for most kids to understand and it doesn't seem like a story kids would feel is boring. If you are a Christian and want to start teaching your kids about Jesus, The Priest with Dirty Clothes is a helpful start.
