We registered for the streaming of The Pilgrim's Progress months ago when we got the first email for it. The day came and went, but circumstances prevented us from being able to watch. Over the next several days, Revelation Media kept extending the streaming window but unavoidable things kept popping up.

Finally, the absolute last chance on the absolute last day and with every other device in the house unable to connect, everything aligned and we sat at the kitchen table and watched it on a laptop via a mobile hotspot. i was expecting the typical "Christian animated feature", you know, poor writing, poor CGI, poor everything, but i wanted to show my support just on principle. Oh. My. It was wonderful. Okay, so it wasn't Pixar-quality CGI, but it was better than i expected. So much easier to understand than reading the book in Old English, great visuals to explain the action, all the characters were pretty much like i'd already pictured in my head while reading it.

But best of all, my wife had been going through some trials at work and in the community and was struggling with her responses to them, but the trials hadn't peaked yet when the original viewing day arrived. The day we were finally able to watch, everything had come to a head and she was beginning to break. The movie struck a spark with her and as the end credits rolled, she bawled because every character in the story answered every issue she had been facing and she gained an new understanding of her situation and how it needed to be addressed. She is a tough woman and doesn't cry often, but she did this time. If we'd watched it the first day or any other day, we would have missed the message aimed at us. For us, this was much more than a story, more than a movie. It was an absolute answer to a prayer we hadn't even prayed yet, fulfilled a need we didn't know we had. The perfect film at the perfect time. And as some rabbis say, coincidence is not a kosher word.

It can be so difficult to watch a movie the whole family will enjoy and this hit the mark. We have kids ages 5-15 and we all liked this. And to be biblically sound and teach the gospel?! You definitely do not want to miss out on watching this movie. There are a few intense scenes for some younger/sensitive kids, just a heads up. This was well done. You will not be disappointed. Side note: maybe buy two. One to keep in your own library and one for lending out or donating to your church or Chrisitian school. :)

I had expected to like this movie, but I had expected to like it in an "understanding-they-had-a-low-budget-but-were-doing-the-best-they-could" sort of way. But this movie was REALLY well done. Yes, you can tell they had a lower budget than Disney, but it is REALLY good! The previews did not do it justice.

Parents of young children be warned: it does have a lot of scary monsters. My kids (6, 4, and 3) thought it was scary but were okay when reminded that the devil cannot stop someone who is following Jesus. The kids loved it too and my 4 year old is now asking for the book for his birthday! (Might be a few years before he's ready for that one! :p )
