Book 1: Writing the How-to Paragraph uses the FNTF formula (First..., Next..., Then..., Finally...) to introduce students to basic, four-sentence paragraph writing. From there, students learn how to expand their paragraphs with more details and eventually write multiparagraph essays. Throughout, they are given practice with editing marks, encouraged to use graphic organizers, and provided with ample opportunities to practice new skills. Each lesson ends with a review section, a quiz, and paragraph writing assignments. Grades 5-8.

jessieinsanfrancisco5 Stars Out Of 5Absolutely amazing!July 14, 2017jessieinsanfranciscoQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 0Prior to using this outstanding curriculum, my 10-year-old son-couldn't put a sentence together on paper. We tried EVERYTHING. Tutors, Special Ed. teachers, graphic organizers, even dictation. Nothing seemed to work. I am part of a Dysgraphia Support Group, and one of the Learning Specialists recommended this book series. I have had it for about 2 weeks, we do a lesson (they are long, just FYI) or half a unit about 2-3 times a week.
He is now able to write a paragraph! It's astonishing. He still needs some scaffolding, but it's becoming less and less. B//c handwriting is so hard for him, I will copy what he says into the pre-paragraph organizer. Then I give him the computer and have him type up his paragraph (in proper format) and does so near perfectly.
BTW, I am a homeschool mom!

Q: Can it be used independently by a 13yr. old. If using this with an 8th grader, can The Paragraph Book 1 be done almost independently by the child? I have 5 younger students to teach and I need something that my oldest can do more on his own but still learn to write well :)
Depending upon your student's ability, an 8th grader should be able to complete this curriculum with little guidance. We recommend viewing the sample pages, to see if this is right for you.
Q: Do you use one book per year? Will it last the whole year? I have a 7th grader that I think could benefit from this series. Just wondering if it will take us 4 years to get through it. Since we are starting a couple of years too late. Can I use 2 books in one year?
The book is can be used for Gr. 5-8 but it should only take 1 year to complete. If you needed to you should be able to use 2 books in 1 year.
