Based on the novel "Shep of the Painted Hills" by Alexander Hull this film is one of the all time classic dog movies. In The Painted Hills Lassie stars as "Shep" an old miner's loyal dog that must outsmart his owner's killer. Lin Taylor tries to conceal his greed for the gold. Action-packed and beautifully shot, The Painted Hills is entertainment in the style of the old traditional western. Also starring Paul Kelley, Gary Gray, Bruce Cowling, Ann Doran. Directed by Harold Kress. Please note: This film is not a traditional Lassie episode. The description on the back cover of the DVD is incorrect. Approx. 70 minutes. Dianna W Morrow2 Stars Out Of 5May 12, 2008Dianna W MorrowAs you state in your description, the movie package description is very inaccurate and we found the movie quite depressing and as you say, not that enjoyable. Will probably not watch anymore and will get rid of it.
Nancye Ricketts4 Stars Out Of 5May 5, 2008Nancye RickettsI liked this DVD. There are no gory scenes, but there is suspense and action. Lassie outshines all the other actors, but they are still pretty good in their roles. The old miner should have really been an old man; the beard looks fake. Other than that I didn't see any problems. This movie takes me back many decades and the TV and movies back then. That is a definite plus, plus, plus.
Marilene1 Stars Out Of 5March 27, 2008MarileneThis movie is not for children! The scene of the dog intimidating a man over a cliff to his death is not my idea of wholesome family show. My children ages 2,4,7,9 all had nightmares about evil dogs. Don't waste your money!
Becky Chester3 Stars Out Of 5March 14, 2008Becky ChesterBeen a long time since Ive seen a movie this old, but I enjoyed the lack of "worldliness" that you can't seem to get away from these days. It reminded me of my childhood. 99c was a bargain.
Stan Burditt3 Stars Out Of 5March 14, 2008Stan BurdittThis film is good for children and adults to watch, being an older film it is not loaded with heavy music or gratuitous sex. The price will not break the bank either.Good value
