The Occupied is fast pace book and leaves the reader wanting more. This thriller left me pondering the supernatural and demons.
The main character Trevor Black has a special gift to smell out demons. He uses his gift to help solve a mystery of his childhood friend's killer. In this book Trevor learns about his gift and just how powerful it is. The book is well written and leaves the reader wanting to read the next in the series.
I was given this book from book fun.com for my honest review.
MaryMinnesotaAge: 45-54Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Good versus EvilNovember 10, 2016MaryMinnesotaAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Occupied, by Craig Parshall is a supernatural thriller. It is filled with fast-paced action, murder, travel and things that go bump in the night. This book is truly good versus evil. It is a good book to make you think about your life style choices and what you are doing with your life.
The story begins with Trevor Black as a young teen. It describes a few events and experiences that shaped his development. Then when he is an adult, Trevor is a wealthy, arrogant lawyer. He is also a bit of a jerk. In the beginning of the book I had a real hard time liking him. (As the story develops he does become more likeable.) When Trevors wife is murdered, a series of events are set into motion and his life becomes a disaster. He has become unemployed and irrational. He claims he can see and smell demons, and that they are after him! When another person gets murdered is there any chance the authorities will listen to his explanation? Can he help the police solve a murder? Should he continue to investigate even when it could mean he will get harmed?
I think that Parshall did a great job writing this book. Demonic forces are very real, and not something I ordinarily feel comfortable reading about. The occult theme was dealt with carefully here and I had no problem reading The occupied. The scripture verses in the book help lighten the evil.
I received this book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
Deana5 Stars Out Of 5Good Vs EvilOctober 26, 2016DeanaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Wow! Where do I start with this captivating and intriguing book. It is not for the faint of heart but it sure packs a punch with adventure into good vs evil that explodes at every turn. I have read some of the authors other books which have always captivated me . This book is the best I have read about the demonic spirit with realism. It is a story that had me looking over my shoulder a few times. The graphic descriptions of the demons are superior to anything I have ever read. I could picture them in their grotesque form as they came to invade and torture Trevor.
Trevor is a very well developed character that takes on the dark forces with strength and trust in God. I'm not sure I could be that brave. Would you be prepared to fight against the evil spirits and not back down? I'm sure Trevor never thought when he was messing with the supernatural as a teenager that when he became older he would be fighting them. I absolutely loved the writing and intense scenes as they drew me into the story with goosebumps going up and down my arms. When Trevor discovers that he can not only smell the demons but see them, he uses his abilities to help solve a murder. Did he know the person who was killed? Did it have anything to do with his past?
Not everyone is pleased when he starts investigating on his own and finds himself not liked with the local police. Ashley comes in contact with Trevor as she is investigating the same crime . There was definitely not a love at first sight between these two. Her character is strong but not very trusting. She has some personal issues that will pose a roadblock for her. Can she overcome her trauma and help Trevor ? Their relationship is slow to develop which was very nice and I loved how Trevor witnessed to Ashley. Will she believe that there is a God?
This book takes a subject that many people won't talk about and brings it to the surface with spine tingling realistic dialogue and scriptures that are brilliantly placed throughout the story. I am hoping that the author continues Trevor's story . I highly recommended this book to anyone wanting to read a fictional account about demonic spirits that explodes with action and intensity.
I received a copy of this book from The BookClub Network for an honest review. The review is my own opinion and I was not compensated for it.
beckieAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5DemonsOctober 24, 2016beckieAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5"The Occupied" by Craig Parshall is the first in the Trevor Black Series. Trevor is a former high end defense lawyer from New York who has been chosen by God to enter into battle with the demons that walk the earth. While Trevor is riding high in NYC he looses his wife to a drug overdose and his partnership in a short period of time. He is brought in as a consultant by a detective who believes that darker powers are at work than the usual bad guys. The demons travel to Wisconsin to Trevor's home town to wreak havoc on the town to draw Trevor out for battle.
This is an unusual book in that it is both paranormal/horror and Christian Fiction all at once. The novel is well written and incredibly captivating. It will keep you up at not first to read, then to ponder and fear. I think this series will be a success and I look forward to reading more. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from Tyndale Publishers.
tickmenotKansas CityGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5They Don't Only Come Out After Dark....September 22, 2016tickmenotKansas CityGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a Christian supernatural thriller! All three of those subjects come together in a very fast-moving and believable story. If the reality of God and the devil aren't acknowledged, they don't have any influence on one's life, right? Once upon a time, that is what Trevor Black thought, as well.
Seemingly, he had it all: he was a successful New York City lawyer, had a beautiful wife, and lots of money. Trevor had never given much thought to good or evil, God or the devil. But then everything came crashing down around him, and in the midst of his loss, he discovered Jesus. But he also uncovers the reality of evil, and that he has been given an unusual gift. He can sense the presence of evil, or horribles as he calls them--he can even smell them.
So begins a very realistic tale of intense spiritual warfare. As a warning, there are some mature themes in this book. However, everything flows together to point the reader to faith in God. Trevor finds he must be ever watchful, because as Peter said, "the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." But he also discovers as the disciples of long ago said to Jesus--"Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."
This book is a real page turner, but it will also keep the hair on the back of your neck standing--even more so, because the story is so believable. The author does a great job of tying incidents from decades earlier in Trevor's life to things happening in the present. The characters are interesting and realistic, and the author will keep you on the edge of your seat! Your heart will be racing by the time you get to the last page. This also appears to be a start of a series; I certainly hope so! I highly recommend this 5 plus star book to anyone interested in thrillers with a supernatural twist.
