Smith does much of his writing in the quiet Cotswold countryside of England. In the States, Smith has spent a lifetime teaching both law and religion at Christian universities.
Annie5 Stars Out Of 5My favorite Chronological BibleApril 17, 2015AnnieQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I have several chronological Bibles and this one has become my favorite. The introductory summaries to each period of time are very well written. They prepare you for what is to come and the text flows naturally from story to story. The narrative commentary inserted throughout the entire Bible is written in the present tense so it makes you feel as if you are right there, a participant in the events. If I were to improve this Bible I would include colored pictures, drawings, timelines, etc. but then maybe they'd be a distraction. As it is, it is a Bible that you read like a story. For someone who has a difficult time following biblical events, this is a great Bible. Having it written in chronological order and having the informative narratives as an aid makes it very understandable and takes away the confusion of jumping from one period of time to another.
KirkCentral ColoradoAge: Over 65Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5A valuable Bible for study and contextualization.September 30, 2013KirkCentral ColoradoAge: Over 65Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3I have had the first edition of this Bible since it was published in 1984, and have read it through several times, and referred to it often. I bought the latest issue because I have worn out the original. For its stated purpose it is good. But, from limited perusal, this new issue contains the same flaws, indeed a bit more. For instance, it lacks the maps included before (which were of limited detail any way). It's Daily Bible Reading Schedule has been put on a calendar basis, rather than on a more convenient self-schedule. Since the page numbers throughout the book remain the same, and a modest look-see didn't show any notable changes to physical organization or pagination, I assume nothing has changed editorially. Thus some errors and flaws espied in the earlier release surely remain. And, in places, especially in the Gospels, Chronicles and Kings, et al, where there is great similarity amongst two or more, the actual text surely remains incomplete in many places. Some paragraphing and indentation is wrong. But, having said all this, I still value Smith's efforts -- now nearly 30 years old. I have written many notes in the early version, and will transfer them to the new (but identical) version. And will continue to value it for its intended purposes.

It is set up so that you can read through it in a year, each daily reading is marked by a small symbol in the corner. I love that each section is not dated, you can begin at any time of the year.
The down side of this Bible is that it does not have any maps or study notes like the other NIV Bibles we have.
Q: Re: The lateest NIV Narrated Bible By: F. LaGard Smith Does the latest edition of this book have the individual verses numbered, or are the verses still in paragraphs with no verse distinctions? I've attached an image of how my 1984 edition looks. I'll buy a later edition that inserts the verse numbers before each verse.
All of the NIV Narrated Bibles feature the same paragraph style verse referencing. They don't identify the individual verses.
