When their Sitka Spruce is chosen as the White House Christmas tree, a father (Andrew MacCarthy) and his son (Evan Williams) set off on an exciting cross-country journey to deliver the tree to the nation's capital. Facing hardship and adventure as they travel America's heartland, father and son discover a bond they never knew existed and the true meaning of Christmas. Dove approved. Widescreen. Approx. 88 minutes.
although there is no cussing, violence or sexuality, the film falls short in other areas, if you are expecting to be edified by godly values.
the teens use the word 'wicked' repeatedly to describe things they see as exciting. the Bible uses the word wicked to describe, well, wickedness (evil). lots of rhetorical confusion in our youth's vocabulary.
the son is very disrespectful of his dad's authority, in one scene yelling at him to get his own way. although the dad is emotionally wounded, he has sacrificed much for the son but the young man can't see that. the son and his internet connected girl friend deceive the adults and stow her on board, against the clear direction of the father. the teens are 'necking' in several scenes despite having just met face to face after a year long internet connection. the adults are drinking and playing poker. one exclamation of 'O M G' (about good hamburgers, hardly a reason to disrespect His Name). the son and father both extol the film 'ghost busters' as a real good one. depends on your world view.
all in all, this is a conservative, but not godly offering. the story has its dramatic and emotional moments and, of course, being for hallmark, is well produced. not worth more than five bucks and not a 'keeper' for me. i wish everyone all the best in there personal choices for family viewing. : )
I had seen this movie on tv and enjoyed it, so I wanted to get the DVD. I enjoyed this movie because of how the father and son were not close at first, but by the end of the movie and the trip to take the tree to the White House they became closer. Good family movie.
Saw this movie on TV several years ago and just loved it. I was so excited when I saw that Christian Book Distributors were offering it and at such a great price. I jumped at the opportunity to purchase it before it was too late. It is an inspiring and uplifting story. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!!
