I have used many HSitW products before this one. We've loved every single one. We love the graphic arts and ease of having all the lessons and projects together (I highly recommend her American History products), and the study concept. We are not as impressed with this study. It's probably difficult to tackle such a big period of time, but I found something a little different in this study (for those 3 other people who care).

Since the Middle Ages is the time period in which the Catholic church and Islam both came into existence, here is where my critique addresses. I guess I don't understand the writer's Biblical views or historical, for that matter. Can't quite tell if they are Replacement Theology, Mystics, Emergent, or something like that. The author, or researcher, keeps addressing the Roman Catholic church, monks, nuns, etc. as "Christians" and as the "church". As well, they hold in high esteem Catholic mystic monks, and proclaim them as "preaching the gospel". So, the lessons basically suggest that there is no difference between the Roman Catholic church and other believers in Jesus. I can't really tell if these lessons are supposed to come from a Biblical point of view, or if they are trying to remain neutral. I didn't find much accurate regarding Islam either...ESPECIALLY if this study should be from a Biblical viewpoint. So, just informing you that the text does have some questionable things that will need to either be discussed, or researched in order to have the correct and Biblical information at your ready.

We use living books and other great resources for history. Project Passport - Middle Ages is the perfect addition. It has fun projects that my children can do to give a hands on element to their studies. We will be looking for other products from this publisher for our next era in history.
