It took him a full 10 years to complete. He worked not from any English text but from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts, to guarantee authenticity. At the same time, his ear was always tuned to the cadence and energy of contemporary English.
Peterson and his wife, Jan, now live in his native Montana. They are the parents of three and the grandparents of six.

It's very big and I don't take it to Church but I love it for home. I use it to reference other scriptures. The format/layout is very nice and large print. The pink leather is amazing. A must buy!

Toby5 Stars Out Of 5Larger Print for Mature ReadersJuly 18, 2017TobyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5i purchased this Message Bible for. my hisband. We each have multiple Bibles, mostly the King James Version and the NRSV. However we have been attending a Bible class which takes the upcoming Sunday's Scripture passage and we read it using multiple interpretations, including The Message. He expressed an interest in acquiring The Message. It adds new insights to our Bible reading. Thus, I suggested it as a Father's Day gift from my daughters.
He loves the content and usually reads from it each morning as his devotion. I, too. have read Scripture , the same passage from my KJV, my NRSV study Bible and the Message. We both get different insights from the different interpretations and enjoy the writing in The Message.
My only criticism is that in this Bible, the print is small. Were I to buy it again, I would get a larger primt version.

Billie4 Stars Out Of 5RefreshingDecember 22, 2016BillieQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I really like The Message. It is so clear and easy to understand. It gives new insight into passages that I have never understood before. I would advise others to use their KJV or NKJV, to compare with. But I can sit and read this book for a long time and get such comfort and inspiration from it. I love the KJV because its verses are so poetic and beautiful, and I would memorize the verses from it, but this version is so refreshing. Our church has reviewed it and accepted it as an addition, to be used with your other Bible. The only thing I don't like about this one is the hard cover and the size needed for large print. It's cumbersome to hold. I bought a smaller version with a soft cover and I can still see the smaller print so I will read it until I can no longer see it. I think this is also good for teens and young people that don't read the Bible because they can't understand it. I bought 3 soft cover New Testament books to give to some of my younger family members because I think they will probably at least give it a try. I feel like this text is inspired. I believe the author, a pastor, spent 10 years writing it, so it wasn't written out of greed, it was written out of love. He saw how the standard Bible was so hard for so many of his church to understand and so he wrote it in modern day language, for them. I love mine. This would have 5 stars if it wasn't for the bulky size, and that can't be avoided with the larger print.
