This review was written for NASB MacArthur Study Bible, Leathersoft, Raven.
I love this study Bible for its ease of use and the study notes are so helpful in further understanding the meaning of the scriptures. I recommend this bible to anyone who is looking for a study bible. I just bought one for each of my children for Christmas.

I really had to go looking for my copy of the NASB MacArthur Study Bible in Raven that is also thumb indexed! First, I would like to say to one that is looking for a black cover in the mentioned translation and thumb index, this is what you are looking for. Online, this cover almost seems off, perhaps a shade of grey, but it is indeed a nice black. I honestly wish that Thomas Nelson offered everything in this volume in genuine leather (not bonded), but sadly for some reason, they do not.

When I first sat and opened the box at the Christian bookstore in which I found my copy, I was immediately struck by how nicely the cover feels against skin, and the absolutely gorgeous silver gilding of the pages. Black and silver have always been a favorite color combination of mine, and I immediately knew that I would be purchasing this Bible before I left the store!

The pages are thin which should come as no surprise to anyone that has a Bible, and while there is ghosting through the page, it is not distracting to me in the slightest. I do wish Thomas Nelson would have used a different color to really make chapter numbers, titles of the books, etc. stand out as Crossway did with the ESV MacArthur Study Bible (regular sized print, as the large print loses the blue), and I wish they added the title of each book to the beginning of Chapter One of each, but there is no such title except for the greyscale Book Introductions that precede each book. I also wish there were color in the Book Introductions like in the Crossway counterpart, but again, just greyscale. In a Bible as nice as this, it really would have made it stand out and stand apart from other Bibles you might be considering.

With all of that said, it is still a joy and a privilege to own, carry, and more importantly use and study this translation and version. The NASB and ESV are my two favorite translations, and the thumb index is always a nice touch for quickly finding what you are looking for, especially when holding your place and searching out a reference elsewhere. Everything you could possibly need is included in this Study Bible, and John's notes are there to assist you like a dear friend when you need them. I've said elsewhere and to others that John mentions in his Personal Notes section near the very front of this Bible about wanting to sit with you and explain the Scriptures to you. I can honestly say that it truly is just like that reading his notes at the bottom of the page. He puts things plainly, taking the time to explain everything verse by verse in many cases. It is something that has truly made studying my Bible enjoyable and has cleared up a lot of the mystery behind it, or even the feeling of being lost even thinking of how to begin to read or study my Bible. I am thankful to John for that, and to God for giving him the ability to do it.

If you've been considering this translation and getting a MacArthur Study Bible, I encourage you to go ahead and get it, either for yourself or a loved one, and especially for someone that longs to read God's Word, but feels as though comprehending it is beyond them, and too daunting. This Bible, while for everyone, especially feels like it was made for those feeling daunted like I felt. This Bible and John will become dear and trusted friends.
