My wife and I love Christian movies, as they have blessed us and our family for years. We bought "The Lost Medallion" with high hopes. We are normally very gracious and charitable in reviews of Christian products, however, this movie was more disappointing than inspiring for us.
I know other reviewers have positive reviews - which is wonderful for them. For us, even with Alex Kendrick, it was just a family fantasy movie, with a few spiritual statements added - that could disappear and the story would stand. In other words, the spiritual aspects are lost in the fantasy story about magic, time travel, and a "hero kids are stronger and smarter than adults" story.
On the positive side, it is a higher quality production, nice special effects, and visually attractive. If you want a fun, clean fantasy/magic family movie, you may like this. Our low rating is strictly from a spiritual point of view - it is simply disappointing on that level. In our opinion, it is NOT a spiritual movie.
We could not and would not recommend this movie to families in our congregation.
This is an excellent adventure movie for children (and adults). My son absolutely loved it and my husband and I enjoyed it as well. There is nothing inappropriate for children in this movie. Also, the message portrayed is a positive one.
I loved the Lost Medeallion and intend to share it with my grandchildren. Along with the time travel theme was the willingness of the story teller to put aside his personal agenda to reach out to children in need. Well don!
This is a great movie filled with high values that all children need to hear. HOWEVER, I purchased this with the expectation of being able to show this at church since our church has a viewing license. At the beginning of the movie it specifically states a SPECIAL VIEWING LICENSE needs to be purchased for this film, how disappointing. A movie that would install so much yet, it seems cost prohibitive for the main objective that I sought.
