A friend recently had an experience with Christ and since she was raised in the same faith I was "back in the day," I recalled the confusion about the person of our Savior. Yancey's name came to mind so I ordered this book and it's been the perfect choice. She and I have since found a different denomination to worship with, but we still had assumptions and traditions from childhood that needed to be sorted out - this book does just that and then some. I recommend this for anyone who has felt God is distant, cold, arbitrary, punitive, angry, harsh, or more concerned that we're lost than saved. Using the Bible, Yancey reveals a God of love and tender mercy who weeps over our choice to reject Him as he continues to prove Himself to us. Now that's truth in action, setting us free from the lies and myths of the world.

M. Force5 Stars Out Of 5AwesomeOctober 8, 2014M. ForceQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Before this book, I was in a dark place. I was losing faith and I have a large problem asking for spiritual advice. So one day I felt called to go to my Wednesday night class, which was moved into a new area for the first time. This room used to be a church library of sorts and ,after talking to the teacher about my struggles, I found this book. This book called to me and ,due to the graciousness of my teacher, I was loaned it. This book was amazing. In the process of losing faith, my biggest concern was whether or not my beliefs were no different from any other person on the planet, but this book reminded me of how amazing the person who my beliefs are founded on was and how much he loved me and everyone else. The author skillfully illustrates our Lord and Savior in a way that few authors have done since the writing of the gospels themselves. When even on a respected website such as this it is easy to see writings that aren't necessarily biblical sound that people jump on almost like a band-wagon and those that are more biblical sound than people give credit to, its amazing to see a work such as this. I would recommend this to any christian who is beginning to lose perspective and those who are have hear that God is just a cold unfeeling old man in the sky because I assure you he is not. God Bless.

Little did I know how much it would challenge me
in my growth. The book opened my eyes to
the culture around the life and times of Jesus.
He became more real to me and I had a
deeper understanding of what it means to
be a follower of Christ. -
