We are using this for our LifeGroup of sixteen adults and we are so pleased with Chip's research and his ability to communicate does not disappoint either. This is the second study we have used of his and this one is even better than the first one (which was good!) Chip does not speak in vague terms and platitudes but is bringing it down to the bottom shelf, backing it all with scripture. Whether you have walked with God for years or are newer to the faith... you will be blessed and strengthened by this teaching. HIGHILY RECOMMEND!!
This is one of the best books I have read on spiritual warfare. The author begins the book in what he call the basic truths. The first chapter is titled spiritual warfare 101 and it covers things like why do Christian struggle, what scripture says that we Christian's do have a personal enemy and the war that is going on behind the scene. From this chapter he lays the foundation of the fight that we are engaged in. He talks about how to do battle and how God delivers us. He talks about Jesus and He dealt with Satan. There are many references to scripture, both Old and New Testament about these things. But the main reference that the author returns to again and again is putting on the armor of God and prepare for battle. From there he moves on to how to prepare yourself for battle and how to fight to win. The last chapter deals with discernment, what is really demonic influence and what is not and spends several pages on the ministry of deliverance for those that have opened themselves up for demonic possession.
He also includes a great deal about the power of prayer. Not the "check the box" kind of prayer, but the deep soul wretching prayer that come from a deep need for God's will to be done. He encourages believers to learn to spend more time in prayer and to pray as the Holy Spirit leads.
What I found different about this book in comparison to many other books of this nature, is the fact that the author doesn't dwell on the enemy. Yes he points out who the devil is and some of the more obvious and not so obvious schemes, but there is much more attention paid to God and scripture. He puts the focus where it should always be, on God and reinforces the idea that we can do nothing in our own power. All our power come from God. I found an enormous amount of scripture that I had not either read or connected to the spiritual warfare arena. I know this will be a book that I will be referring to many times and will be encouraging other to read as well.
Anyone who is walking with Christ as a true follower will experience spiritual warfare, scripture makes that clear. But for some the experience is overt and dealing with demonic manifestations are real. Not every Christian battles the levels of harassment spoken of in this book although it is common in other countries. If you are in a spiritual battle personally and under attack, someone in your family is experiencing intense spiritual warfare, your ministry is being attacked or any of these battles are being manifest even in your home this is the book you need to read. For me, I was relieved to know I was not alone in some of the things I had experienced....knowing it was an attack from the enemy yet I had never experienced prior or read about. My husband was involved in sins that brought intense spiritual darkness and at times he had overt signs of oppression (or as the New Testament Greek says....demonized). He was not saved at the time. I was praying and fighting spiritually and the enemy made it clear my presence was not wanted as I was harassed for months in my home.
I have have known Chip Ingraham's ministry for years listening to sermons and reading his studies....he is a solid teacher who is biblical in his teaching in every way.
God is greater! He has given us spiritual armor to do battle. God has defeated the enemy. We have nothing to fear. But that does not mean the enemy does not attack us in powerful ways at times. Learn how to stand firm biblically and fight for His glory! Stand.
