I've liked Sophie since I met her in previous books. She has been staying with her fiance's mother Mamie in Primrose Cottage, next door to Haverly Manor, while Major Richardson is at war. After he succumbs to injuries received in the same skirmish that wounded his friend Captain Charles Wyvern, Charles travels to Primrose Cottage to give his condolences and Rich's belongings. He feels he already somewhat knows Sophie from the letters she sent to Rich and is quite drawn to her. Wishing to see the coast of Devon where she grew up, Mamie and Sophie plan a trip and Charles offers to accompany them. Things happen quite quickly to change the lives of Sophie, Charles, and Mamie. A captain in the Royal Navy, Charles has been at sea for over twenty years and wants to return to his ship. Becoming the Earl of Rothwell after his uncle's death and finding himself with three young girls as wards were not in his plans. His reaction to Penny, Thea, and Betsy brought some humor to the book. He had no experience with little girls and was often flummoxed by them. Sophie's loving manner drew them all together as a family. As they settle into life at Gateshead, it becomes apparent that there is something not quite right going on in the surrounding village and on the estate. It was fun to see Marcus doing what he does so well. The characters are so well done. Mrs. Chapman (the housekeeper) and the girls were great additions to the story. I love the way the author gives us an inside look to Charles and Sophie's thoughts. This book was a delight to read and I highly recommend it.
Kshu5 Stars Out Of 5Loved it!May 29, 2021KshuI have enjoyed this series so much. Erica Vetsch has become a favorite. Her redemptive heart shows through in dealing with issues in history that are still very much relevant today. Mix that with mystery, romance, and characters that show authentic hearts in struggle and victory, and you have a story that keeps you engaged through to the final page and wanting more.
DeborahBreck5 Stars Out Of 5Vetsch excels in Regency storytelling; just a very smart, warm, different storyApril 29, 2021DeborahBreckI love Erica Vetsch's storytelling; amazing because I believe this series is her first Regency and she stunningly excels in this genre having it be her first foray into it. Such a wonderful, unique, attention-grabbing, fascinating, lovely story; could not put down and totally loved how Vetsch drew it to a satisfying conclusion. Highly recommend you purchase all three; what a highly gifted writer this author is and hope to see more books in this genre or other historical periods.
SusanPMichiganAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A fulfilling and enjoyable third in the seriesApril 26, 2021SusanPMichiganAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was the perfect, slow building, detail and emotion filled romance story. This author never fails to deliver a heartwarming romance that gives you reminders of love, humility and age old wisdom that truth and communication are key. Captain Charles is so lovable in his stern Naval way. Sophie makes me proud as she sticks to her loyalty and doesn't compromise her beliefs and strong will. The three girls made me giggle at most every turn and I completely enjoyed their ruffling of the Earl's feathers. The building of the mystery and wonderful conclusion make for a bookshelf keeper. I received this book courtesy of Kregel Publications through Interviews & Reviews for this, my honest thoughts.
BeccaoregonAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5The Indebted EarlApril 26, 2021BeccaoregonAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I enjoyed the Indebted Earl very much. It takes place during the Regency era. Its not your typical regency romance. While it has romance, it does have a thread of mystery throughout the story. The story itself is in Devon at a manor house and in the Village nearby I could picture the area well. Having a bit of a mystery throughout really made this story interesting and I wanted to find out what happened.
I thought Erica Vetsch did a great job creating believable characters and bringing them to life. I especially liked Charles and Sophie. It was fun to watch them interact. The girls were adorable as well. Full of personality.
Erica Vetsch does a wonderful job bringing this story to life and creating a world you want to escape to. I look forward to reading more books by her.
I recommend this book to my family and friends.
