The Hope Jar was defninitely a storyline that I did not expect. I didn't read the back of the book, so I came into the story not knowing what to expect. (I like to be suprised sometimes!) However, I like Wanda Brunstetter so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed in her book.

The story starts with Michelle in a rough situation. I like how abuse was talked about, but it could be a trigger for someone who has been abused. I liked how decisive Michelle became.

Michelle is mistaken for the granddaughter of an Amish couple. Instead of Michelle coming clean and telling them who she really was, she plays along for months. Well, that is, until the real granddaughter come along and Michelle is forced to come clean. But her heart longs for this family and to be loved. If only they could understand why she did what she did.

Michelle was a very well-developed character. She had her flaws, but readers just can't help but like her as the close the last page of the book. Maybe it's because there's a little of us all in her in some small way.

The start of this series is great and I can't wait to see where she goes next. The story definitely leaves the reader with a "well, what happens next?" kind of feeling!

This book is the first in the series and is so good. Kept me involved the whole time. I didn't want to put the book down. i am anxious to find out who wrote the prayers and put them in the jars. Of course I have my suspicions but I guess I have to wait until the 3rd book comes out. Excellent read.

When I began reading Wanda E. Brunstetter's The Hope Jar, my first reaction was "this is not Wanda's book". As I kept reading, her voice became evident. This book deals with contemporary issues from the start. The trust of this Amish family brought into their home someone who could have carried danger with them. Although mislead as to the identity of the woman now in their lives, the unconditional love and acceptance was exactly what Michelle needed. The tension caused by her constant fear kept her from fully receiving that love. She does grow as she lives in this loving home but flees from this love with guilt filling her heart. Michelle does begin to find hope and the courage to face her fear with the help of someone who will need her support as much as she need his. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Hope Jar is an Amish fiction book. The book takes place in Pennsylvania . The Lapp family's daughter ran away from home. They miss her so very much. Her daughter learns after her mother's death where her grandparents live. She is eager to meet them. Her name is Sara Murray. She writes them to plan a visit to meet them. On the day they were supposed to pick her up at the train they are approached my Michelle Taylor, a 24 year old girl who left her abusive boyfriend and is homeless. She poses as Sara, the granddaughter and goes with the Lapps. She stays at the Lapp house and pretends to be their granddaughter. She even answers to Sara. After 2 months when she knows Sara is really coming she leaves and writes a note saying to the Lapps what she had done to them the past two months. Michelle struggles to find herself . Will she find who she is and where she fits in life? Will she see that God loves her in the midst of all she has been through. ?
