Nathan Everstone is a wealthy bachelor who has just returned from a two-year adventure out West. He left abruptly and everyone thought he would marry Nicholette Fairbanks upon his return. She certainly thinks so. However, Nathan has returned a changed man and has no intention of marrying Nicholette. He has his eye on another heiress, but she wants nothing to do with him. He cant understand that as he usually has no problem charming women and gaining their attention. He is determined to win her hand and she is just as determined that he wont.

Amaryllis Brigham is practically a spinster at the age of 25. She has no desire to marry, but upon being kicked out of music school she arrives at her wealthy aunts home and soon discovers she is heir to lots of money. There is only one catchin order to gain the money she needs to marry within one year of leaving music school. Amaryllis doesnt like all the parties and social gossip that goes on in polite society. She was raised on a horse farm for fourteen years and longs to return there to start her own music school, but she cant do that if she is broke. Nathan Everstone seems to be everywhere she turns and he is getting under her long-held defenses. Can she sell herself in marriage to gain her dream of a returning home and starting a music school?

This was one fantastic story! I was pulled in from page one until the end. The characters were likeable and I was emotionally invested in the outcome of the story. Nathan now relies on God and His will for his life whereas before Nathan did whatever he pleased with no thought to anyone or anything other than himself to those who saw him publically. Those who knew him best always saw the good in him, but since his return from Washington they have seen a different man. His pursuit of Amaryllis was admirable. He didnt give up because he believed God wanted them to be together and that he was following Gods will. Their romance was just a joy to watch unfold. Great job Dawn!! Ive already started reading book two in the series, The Bound Heart, as I couldnt wait to read Meredyths story. Stay tuned for that review right here soon!

Where do I even begin?! This book is amazing and you should definitely read this. This is a beautifully written romance set in the 1890s in Boston, Massachusetts.

Amaryllis Brigham has dreams of founding a music academy in her hometown in Seattle, Washington, but when she is unjustly expelled from the Boston Conservatory of Music, she struggles with seeing how those dreams could happen. Now the only way she can see these goals happening is to marry within the year to inherit a large fortune of her estranged grandmother. Did I mention that shes dead set against men in general?

She reluctantly moves in with her Aunt Claudia in Boston and rubs shoulders with fashionable society. She finds herself falling in love with Nathan Everstone. Nathan is the envy of every eligible female, whose father has haunted her dreams for the decade following her mothers tragic death. However, Nathan turns out to be much more than he seemsand everything she never knew she wanted. But can she ever really trust an Everstone man?

The characters were fabulous and well-developed. Amaryllis grows so much during her journey throughout the book. Who she was in the beginning is not who she is in the end. I loved her character so much. She doesnt love the wealthy society. She wants to use her gifts and talents for God and care about his people. Also, I love her name. Its different. A name Ive never heard of before. Its also a beautiful name.

Oh and dont get me started on Nathan. He is incredibly sworn-worthy. The way he interacts and shows his love for Amaryllis is stunning.

I also loved all of the other characters that were mixed in. Lawry, Meredyth, Estella, Claudia, and so forth. They added so much richness to the story and I felt like they were family.

The writing style is unique and well-done as well. Dawn Crandall weaves spiritual elements into the story without being preachy and that fit perfectly. She points her readers towards God and thats awesome.

Theres also a sense of mystery to the plot. Dawn Crandall doesnt reveal all of the information right away. Instead, she sprinkles it throughout the story until youre like, whoa, didnt see that one coming.

Crandalls descriptions were beautiful. I felt as if I really were in Boston. In fact, the book has made Boston become one of the places I want to visit one day.

Each chapter has quotes from many well-known classic writers that fit the theme as well. These were so fun to read and made the story more fun.

Overall, I loved this story and I highly recommend it. Im currently reading the sequel, The Bound Heart, and will hopefully have a review for that one up soon as well.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

I enjoyed this story. There was so much emotion from a woman who spent her life trying not to show any. I loved how Nathan brought this out of Amaryllis. There was some mystery as she tries to deal with the snippets of information she receives from others around her that changes her memories and perceptions of things that occurred in her past. A good story. (Full Review at my website)

I am so glad that the writer has a lot of friends/fans for the high reviews. That's all. Wow. I was asked to read the fourth book in the series for endorsement, and then I was asked to read the series to see if they are stand alone or if they are interconnected to the point you must read the entire series. I am not obligated to give a good review.

Good. Glad for that. I have heard (and I won't say by whom) that Ms. Crandall's writing style is very disjointed and stiff. It is. It doesn't flow well at all and the wording is very formal. It is also headache inducing with the same thing being hashed over and over and over. And as rude as Amaryllis is to Nathan I wonder why he even bothered with her. The high society girl who is supposedly the villain is much nicer than Amaryllis. I did love Aunt Claudia though. She was fun and entertaining.

I am glad that Ms. Crandall didn't start out with a death -- though in a way she did as it starts with Amaryllis being expelled from music school where she was a "higher level student". But I'm rather confused as to why she was in music school at all as she admits she cannot read music and plays by memory. (My children's music teacher would shudder!)

The secrets behind Amaryllis and Nathan's father were rather predictable when they finally were revealed. Maybe it was just me but I saw it coming from the beginning.

I also really liked Nathan. He was a nice guy, a true hero. Very patient. There is zero sexual tension between the hero and herione,

THE HESITANT HEIRESS is written in first person, which I did notice initially, but it didn't bother me. It was rather nice to experience a first person historical. If you like regency romances set in America (Boston), then Ms. Crandall's book might be one you would enjoy.

The Hesitant Heiress is the story of wealthy Nathan Everstone and Amaryllis Brigham who is surprised to find herself an heiress. Both of these characters were strongly written. Amaryllis feels responsible for her mother's death when she was fourteen and is made to realize it was not her fault. Amaryllis ends up with several interested suitors and has to decide who truly loves her. The setting of Boston in the late 1800s is interesting. Dawn Crandall keeps you guessing who Amaryllis will end up marrying. I received my e-book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
