Editorial Reviews

This wonderful Hawaiian jaunt is a fascinating journey of a young Amish girl and her path to selfdiscovery. A discussion guide is included at the end as well as a couple of recipes. Recommend to fans of Amy Clipston and Kim Vogel Sawyer.

If you are looking for a 5-star, well thought out read, then look no further than this beautifully captivating novel. Another two thumbs up to the queen of Amish fiction in my book! Well done!

The Hawaiian Quilt is another wonderful book by Wanda and Jean Brunstetter. While many of the Amish inspired books are set in Amish country this one is unique in the fact that it is set in Hawaii.

This was a wonderful story with many twists and turns. It is one of those books that keeps you guessing. I highly recommend this book.

This is a wonderful read. It is a story of a young Amish girl's compelling desire to see Hawaii. Along with her three Amish friends, they work and save for this cruise. As the story unfolds, you experience their excitement and sometimes confusion. The beauty of the island and the culture is very well described and creates a picture in your mind. Before you realize it, you are drawn into their world and their problems. You will be glad you read this book.

Join the fun of a cruise ship journey and visiting the Hawaiian Islands with Mandy, Ellen, Sadie and Barbara by reading the beautiful enchanting story in The Hawaiian Quilt. Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter definitely did their homework with capturing the loveliness of the Islands and all the sites the characters experienced throughout their trip. There were some unexpected events that kept me reading until I finished this lovely story. The characters and secondary characters are well developed with their own thoughts and goals in their lives. How will the beauty of a Hawaiian Quilt be woven into this great read? Readers and admirers of Wanda and Jean Brunstetter's books will not be disappointed with this one. I would like to see a sequel to see what is happening with the characters, with the unforeseen ending.

The Hawaiian Quilt, by Wanda Brunstetter will have you hooked from the start! I loved this book first because it is Amish and I love all of Wanda's books, but secondly, because of its uniqueness in that it is set on a cruise ship and then in Hawaii!

Mandy Frey has always dreamed of one day seeing Hawaii, so she has gotten three of her Amish friends to go with her on a cruise to Hawaii before they join the Amish church to be baptized. The adventure starts almost immediately and continues to keep you turning pages as one thing after another happens on their trip. When it is all said and done, Mandy and Ellen end up losing track of time on one of their port stops at one of the Hawaiian island and gets left by the cruise ship. They end up getting taken to a bed and breakfast in Kauai, that is owned by a very nice Christian couple. Having spent basically all their savings to take the trip in the first place, they have no way to pay for a new trip to take them back home. So, they decide to stay a few days and end up working for the nice couple there at the bed and breakfast to help them out as they are now short handed after one of them had an accident and is now unable to work.

Mandy and Ellen both love it there, but Ellen is extremely ready to get back home, back to her Amish life. Mandy, on the other hand, has met an Hawaiian native, Ken, whom after spending much time with has come to care for very much.

So after several months, the time has come for the girls to return home, to their family, church, and Mandy's boyfriend Gideon. Mandy struggles to leave after developing such a love for Hawaii and several people there, including Ken. When she arrives home, she realizes that her Amish life is no longer the life she wants and struggles to be happy with it, and with her boyfriend Gideon.

Will she be able to forget what she left in Hawaii? Will she ever be truly happy back home in Middleberry, or will she always dream and long for what she had in Hawaii?

This book made me laugh and cry. Mandy and her Amish friends were very brave to decide to take a cruise to Hawaii before they joined the church. Gideon who is Mandy's boyfriend is not happy to be apart from Mandy for the weeks she will be gone. Soon Mandy and her friend, Ellen, go to shore and miss the cruise ship. They are very scared. I would have been terrified. Luckily they are directed to a bed and breakfast run by friendly owners. They learn many lessons while they are marooned on the Hawaiian island. Mandy also meets another boy that she gets a crush on. She must decide if she wishes to remain Amish or to stay in Hawaii. I received this book from the author and have given a review with no obligation.
