A line of women who would be warriors for truth
"It is said that as Cahira, daughter of the great Irish king Rory OConnor, lay dying of a wound from a Norman blade, she lifted her hand toward heaven and beseeched God that others would follow after her, bright stars who would break forth from the courses to which they are bound and restore right in this murderous world…"

Ruth Stuwe5 Stars Out Of 5April 2, 2010Ruth StuweI very much enjoyed #2, "The Golden Cross", in the series of Cahira O'Conner. It was the last book of the series that I read because it was unavailable for a while but it was one of the best in my opinion. I highly recommend all four books of the series of Cahira O'Connor. There were many times when I couldn't put the books down!
Tammy Gould4 Stars Out Of 5March 1, 2010Tammy GouldI have been reading a book for Waterbrook Multonomah called, The Golden Cross by Angela Elwell Hunt. This book is the second book in a series entitled The Heirs of Cahira O'Connor. These books are about a lineage of women, each descended from Cahira O'Connor, who each bear a similar marking of red hair with a white streak. The Golden Cross is about Aidan O'Connor, a young woman trying to find herself and move beyond the wharf, a place she has spent most of her life thieving and trying to remain pure in a less than harsh environment. She is given an amazing opportunity to study art under the tutelage of a famous cartographer and eventually is asked to join him on an exploration voyage. She must disguise herself as a boy to protect herself from the rough sailors on board. She spends her days drawing and painting the flora and fauna of the various islands they discover.Life isn't easy for Miss O'Connor though - cannibals, mystery, evil, and death await her at every turn as she tries to accomplish the dreams she has longed to fulfill. She also finds love but can she learn to trust him with her secret past? Can she learn to trust God as well with her past and future?I probably wouldn't have chosen this book but I am glad I was given the opportunity to review it. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
Cathy4 Stars Out Of 5February 26, 2010CathyThis was a pretty good book. It takes you to some really exotic places. I enjoyed the shipboard part of the story the most with her faking being a boy and the travel to the islands and the interactions with the natives, etc. If you like books that take place back in the mid-1600's and that have lots of adventure, you will enjoy this book.
