I chose this Bible for the rich language and beautiful art work. There is something interesting on every page to keep the little ones engage while I read. [I find that my children loss interest quicker with the watered down, cartoon Bibles.] This is one out of a handful children's Bible I recommend.

Yes, Jesus has blonde hair. It's call artistic expression. The artist clear knows what a Jewish man might have looked like because we see many dark haired, dark eyed individuls. I suspect that Jesus was given blonde hair to stand out from the crowd and/or to appear divine or angelic. The only other blonde hair we see is on angels and the beloved disciple John. No doubt the artist used blonde hair to convey a message through his art. And I would say he accomplished just that.

Until I realized I cannot really use it as a core Bible for our studies. It completely skips over talking anything about the sacrifice of Isaac, or Sodom and Gomorrah, or Hagar and Ishmael. This Bible goes straight from God's covenant with Abraham and the next chapter begins with taking a wife for Isaac. it's quite strange to me to leave out such important events out of a child's Bible.

i cannot pick up this book and share with my pre k age son. Jesus being Caucasian is unacceptable and very misleading. it doesn't matter the content or the writing, because little kids focus more on the graphics. this books illustration needs to be seriously revised. we need the Gospel but we also need to respect history.

This book has been around for many years, and it will never go out of style. I have read it to my children, and I purchased a new copy to continue the tradition with my grandchildren.

Best Children's Bible on the market. Traditional, easy to read and understand. Not "dumbed down," not cartoonish. Only flaw is the Jesus figure who appears with blonde hair and blue eyes in Gospel illustrations. Easiest way to get around this is to take a brown colored pencil and lightly shade hair, beard and eyes. It is not difficult to do and renders the illustrations to be more pleasing and authentic looking. It is really the only flaw I see in this book. I recommend it highly, not only for kids 8+ years old, but for adults, too. Some adults have never read the Bible and would like to have a framework for understanding. This is a perfect Bible for a beginner--ages 8-adult.
