Tell us a little about yourself. My experience includes 20 in ministry, and 16 years in Public Education. I began writing with the first book in this set, called The God Whisperer, and since have written seven more books about various Biblical topics.
What was your motivation behind this project? I have always enjoyed animals, and spent some time training with my dogs for the show ring. This book draws upon the stories of animals, much the same way Jesus used everyday objects to communicate his message.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? There is a theme for every week with thoughts and lessons to help readers explore each topic. The end of the week gives prayer topics and activity ideas to help solidify each concept. My goal is to engage animal lovers, and draw them closer to Christ.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This book started out as weekly blog posts. I thought that I could maybe draw out the animal picture for maybe 10-12 lessons. Two and a half years later, God was still teaching me spiritual lessons through my animals.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I began learning principles of dog training through Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer. Though he professes no faith, I saw spiritual lessons in everything he taught. I began applying his practices to my Biblical lessons and the gospel suddenly became simple and accessible.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: If you are just beginning your walk with Jesus, or you feel like you are still a spiritual infant, then this book is perfect for you. Each lesson is easy to understand, but together they will change your life. If you love Jesus, and have an animal in your home, this book will help shape your relationship with God. It will also change the way you work with your animals. Discipleship does not need to be a complicated plan. For Jesus, it was simple. The best lessons are also simple. You will love The God Whisperer Daily Devotions
