Review of "The God Hater" by Bill Myers and narrated by Bill Myers

Review: 4 Stars (out of 5)

What happens when an atheist philosopher gets to "play God" in a virtual world with artificially intelligent beings? With strains that are more than a little reminiscent of "Caprica," Myers weaves an fascinating tale addressing whether a creator needs to establish an ethical system, communicate transcendence and the fact of his own existence to his creatures. This book sneaks up on you and asks tough questions about the sustainability of various worldviews. While usually I am not a fan of authors reading their own works, Bill Myers surprises with the quality of his narration. The plot and execution are well done with some plot twists, however, some of the dialogue seems a bit unnatural (hence the 4 Star rating). However, the dialogue does not detract much from this otherwise worthwhile audiobook.

This is a really good story. In fact, I had to ration myself whilst listening to this because it was so good. I really didn't want it to end. It's kept my attention, and made me wonder how it was all going to end. And what an ending, not disappointing at all.

I've not come across anything by Bill Myers before, so wasn't too sure what to expect. I thought it might be a bit corny actually, and full of cliches, but not at all. I have read other Christian fiction which I really didn't like for those very reasons.

This really is excellent storytelling with a brilliant plot, likeable and not so likeable characters.

I loved the narration, with all the different voices being done excellently by Bill Myers himself.

I would definitely like to listen/read more of his books if they are anything like this one. I'll also be recommending them to others.
