Amy Clipston has a way of teaching a life lesson to each reader. This reader learned many things reading this book. It gives you a wake up call on your own life and makes you think about your own actions and reactions, at least for this reader it did. The Forgotten Recipe is not really about the Recipe it is about Veronica's journey and the guidance she receives from her Mammi when she loses the love of her life, Seth in a work accident. She finds the recipe and decides to give it a try and it begins an incredible journey for Veronica. Everyone loves the Raspberry Pies - she has many request and opens a roadside stand to sell her pies, jams, and other recipes. Into her life Jason Huyard stops to purchase pies for his Mamm and our story really begins. Amy takes us through the journey of loss, making new friends, trust, deceit, love and faith. Veronica and Jason find love but through deceit and a stubborn head and a breaking heart becomes a hurdle when Jason reveals to her that he worked with Seth and they were friends and he was there when the accident happened. Will their love be strong enough to keep them together? Trust, Love and Faith will guide you. I so enjoyed this book. Thank you Amy Clipston.

Loved this first book in An Amish Heirloom Series by Amy Clipston!

This story is set around two main characters Veronica Fisher and Jason Huyard. While at first they really don't even know each other, they are connected by a special bond they both share to someone they both lost, Seth Lapp.

Veronica and Seth were engaged to be married, when an accident on the job takes Seth from this life. She is consumed with grief and the loss of love she feels she will never be able to have again. She does pretty much anything to try to keep busy to keep her mind occupied every day, just to make it through each day. One day, while cleaning the attic, she comes across an old chest and finds a recipe for her Mammi's (grandmother's) blackberry pie. She decides this could be a perfect new distraction for her, as she is running out of other things to do. She sets up a roadside stand and sells her delicious pies.

Jason Huyard, is flooded with guilt and grief over the passing of his friend Seth Lapp. While he misses his best friend, he also feels guilt over the accident that happened on the job site where he and Seth had been working that day. Jason feels drawn to Veronica the first time he sees her after Seth's death, and seeks out to find her. Not realizing he would soon find her at a roadside back stand selling the best blackberry pies he'd ever tasted.

As they meet and their relationship begins to blossom, Jason never says a word about knowing Seth, much less that he was his best friend and was there when he died. Jason knows his secret of knowing Seth needs to be told, but has no idea how to tell it without losing Veronica. Will Jason tell Veronica? Will his secret tear them apart?

This book was a great read as all of Amy Clipstons' books are! Loved the way she left a little cliffhanger at the end that had me grabbing book 2 immediately! Great story line and well described characters! Also love the Amish glossary at the beginning of the book to help decipher any words you are not accustomed to in the Pennsylvania Dutch language.

Amy Clipston has brought her fans yet another captivating, fun ride. I truly enjoyed reading this start to her Amish Heirloom series. Her words, her characters, her story line all combine to create a read you won't be able to put down! I know I couldn't, as I read it in a day!

I loved Veronica and Jason's characters. Both went through something emotional and tragic, and both had a fear in their heart. Watching them together, feeling like I was right there in the middle of Amish country with them, was so fun. Each page turn brought something to the book and kept me hooked the whole time.

I definitely recommend this book by the amazingly talented Amy Clipston. She knows just what her readers want and delivers. This story is filled with God's grace and love, and characters that will steal your heart. But, be warned! Ms. Clipston's 5 star worthy work is absolutely addictive and will leave you hungry for more. I can't wait to read book 2!

Amish stories can be vastly as different as apples are to oranges, so too are the authors that craft the tales. I am new to Amy Clipstons writing and am now hooked on her books, not because they take place in Amish communities or the characters are Amish. I enjoy her books because she tells a wonderful story that has meat in it. In other words, there is depth in the plot, characters and community.

In the first book of this particular series, we meet the two main characters, Veronica Fisher and Jason Huyard. What ties these two people together might surprise you. They share the loss of a man named Seth. To one he was a fianc and to the other his best friend. Both Veronica and Jason bear a deep grief and also guilt for Seths accidental death at work. Though neither one is truly responsible, it was just a horrible accident. Accident or no there are ripple effects in these two hearts as well as their families, coworkers and community.

As readers progress through the book, hearts will be tugged by the grief shown and shared, and also uplifted by the fun times with others. Veronica finds something out about herself through the book and Jason is learning that love means sometimes waiting patiently. Sounds simple until one reads that there is something not revealed yet, but occasionally referred to in the story. At the end of the book, I guarantee you wont want to wait to find out what is going on that hasnt been revealed. So, be prepared to read the next book in the series, The Courtship Basket.

I am looking forward to seeing how the author reveals either another layer of the mystery planted in book one or revealing the mystery as a whole. I cannot wait to see what happens with these families and the community!
