Publisher's Description

What if the Islamic State captured the most valuable hostage in history?
“The president of the United States . . . is missing.” With these words, New York Times journalist J. B. Collins, report-ing from the scene of a devastating attack by ISIS terrorists in Amman, Jordan, puts the entire world on high alert. The leaders of Israel and Palestine are critically injured, Jordan’s king is fighting for his life, and the U.S. president is missing and presumed captured.

As the U.S. government faces a constitutional crisis and Jordan battles for its very existence, Collins must do his best to keep the world informed while working to convince the FBI that his stories are not responsible for the terror attack on the Jordanian capital. And ISIS still has chemical weapons . . .

Struggling to clear his name, Collins and the Secret Service try frantically to locate and res-cue the leader of the free world before ISIS’s threats become a catastrophic reality.

This review was written for The First Hostage: A J. B. Collins Novel.
Joel Rosenberg's fast-paced thrillers are like reading Middle East current events--no, more like being plunged into the midst of them. This exciting story is no exception. ISIS = destruction, and NYT correspondent J. B. Collins is more involved than simply reporting the details. He may not escape with his life. The president of the US has disappeared following an ill-fated Jordanian summit, and J. B. is determined to find him, or at least learn what happened. This is a another winner of a novel. I can hardly wait for the next one. I received this book from Book Fun Club. All opinions are my own.

I bought this book for my 17 yr old son who enjoys reading IF it is a good action packed book. He thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series but this one (The First Hostage) he devoured. He was already looking online to see when the next book will come out.

This review was written for The First Hostage: A J. B. Collins Novel.
"The First Hostage," by Joel C. Rosenberg, is a fast-paced novel of suspense. While fiction, I feel like this story touches on a lot of modern day issues. It is filled with travel, terrorism and instability in the Middle East. Rosenberg seems to know the area and many of the issues quite well.

J.B. Collins is back and he is once again in the middle of some huge troubles. The President of the United States is missing, and J.B. isn't allowed to tell anyone. Every instinct in his reporter-mind is screaming at him to get this story, and more, out to his boss at the New York Times. But, J. B. is being detained in Jordan, is he a guest or a prisoner? He is walking a very fine line as he fights to discover the truth about ISIS, the President, and about his own safety.

I enjoyed this quick moving story. It is clean, and contains some prayer, contemplation and a bit of Scripture. There is also some shooting, violence and blood, but it is about terrorism, so I would think that would be expected. It breaks my heart to think that some of the evil is this book is (quite probably) happening in our world today. Sadly, we don't live in a place where the good guys always win and the bad guys get what they deserve.

I received this book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.

I listened to this (MP3-CD) as I drove to and from work. I couldn't wait to get back in the car, turn it on and enjoy it, chapter after chapter. So well done that it could have been a news event happening in the here and now! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Excellent read. Rosenberg always grabs your attention right at the beginning and hangs on until the end. Not good when you want to get some sleep because you just want to keep reading but always a fantastic read.
