This is one of the best books by this author. Gray and Mackenzie are happily married when tragedy strikes their family. How they each deal (or not deal) with their grief while trying to hold on to their faith is a captivating story. This book is hard to put down once you start reading it. The story is set in Tennessee and Mackenzie's mother and friends are reminiscent of the women in Steel Magnolias, and I think this book would make an excellent movie. You will feel sad at times and laugh out loud at others. A thoroughly enjoyable book.
Jeremiah is the gardener for the governor and his wife and is so loving toward them. The govenor and his wife stuggle with infertility, miscarrage and then the lose of their only child in a terrible accident. The gardener has a major role in their healing process.
The First Gardener is not what I was expecting, it was so much better. This book is so realistic, very much like what couples go through. It is sad, and at times hard to read, but the story pulled me into it and I could not put the book down. The story is about the first family, with inputs from the gardener, which makes it so interesting. I will be passing this book on to friends!
First Gardner was an amazing book. Denise Hildreth Jones descriptions made me feel like I was at the Governor's mansion in Tennessee. The story of Governor Gray London and his wife, Mackenzie, is one of heartbreak and hope. Jones tells a tell that makes your relate to the characters, care about them and root for them; even when bad choices are being made. And the surprise ending was great, full of unexpected grace.
A beautifully written, sweet, yet sad story. Having dealt with depression after losing a dear friend, this story certainly hit close to home. It was a book that I could not put down, and read it with tears, and also sometimes a chuckle. An excellent read, that I throughly enjoyed.
