Pat5 Stars Out Of 5The Family Garden Plan: Grow a Year's Worth of Healthy and Sustainable Food by Melissa K. NorrisJanuary 7, 2020PatQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is not just another gardening book. Melissa K. Norris takes you step by step into the world of gardening, from your tiny porch or patio garden to several acres of bountiful crops.
I live in a trailer park. My question was: Is it possible, with the land I have, to grow a year's supply of anything? She uses forms to help me answer these questions. What one single crop do we consume the most over a year? She has provided a form for me to list what we eat, and average out the consumption over a year. How many plants of one crop do I need to grow for our tiny family of two (or four, or eight)? Plant by plant, she shows an average yield of that crop.
But she doesn't stop there. She shows the benefits of rotation gardening, companion planting, soil health and nutrition, composting, pest control, and much, much more. Through her easy-to-understand prose and her light sense of humor, I have learned more from this author than from any other gardener.
I have found this to be the best book on gardening I have ever purchased.
