In 1998, when I was preparing to attend my first Oxbridge (a C.S. Lewis Summer Institute normally held each 3 years in Oxford and Cambridge), I realized that I had read only Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, and a few other pieces. I found this work edited by Lyle W. Dorsett, then Director of the Marion Wade Center at Wheaton College. Over the years I have joined the ranks of those obsessed with C. S. Lewis and his fellow Inklings. I have lead several groups of students to the academic home of Lewis and Tolkien. I require this book because it is still the single best, most complete anthology of the diverse genre Lewis used in evangelizing those who would read his works (his goal). I would assert that this is still the best, most complete anthology available. Dorsett's introductory biographical sketch of Lewis is quite good, but his editorial choices regarding the works to include in this anthology is superior. His work literally changed transformed my own academic and teaching efforts. Many of us owe a great debt to Professor Dorsett! I know his anthology inspired me to commit much of my life to the same issues Lewis and Tolkien addressed. I highly recommend this book as an exceptional launching pad into the realm of the classic works of this beloved author.
