Publisher's Description

A Financial Thriller That Will Keep Readers on the Edge of Their Seats

Esther Larsen, a leading risk analyst at one of the country's largest banking institutions, is becoming more and more convinced that she has uncovered a ticking bomb with the potential to overshadow 2008's market crash. And as her own employer pursues "investment" strategies with ever-increasing levels of risk, she becomes convinced she must do something. Yet what can one person really do?

The markets are edging closer to a tipping point--like the teetering first domino in a standing row that circles the globe. And when Esther does sound the alarm, she wonders if anyone will take her seriously. But as public support grows for her ideas, so does the desperation of those whose conspiracy of greed she seeks to expose. With global markets on the brink, and her own life in danger, Esther is locked in a race with the clock to avert a worldwide financial meltdown.

This fast-paced suspense novel will make you wonder where the fiction ends and reality begins. . . .

    The Domino Effect

    By Davis Bunn

Esther Larson is the top risk analyst at her bank, which also happens to be one of the largest within the US. Her job is, officially, to warn the investment powers that be of any foreseeable risks before investments are made. Unofficially she's supposed to find high-risk investments with big quick returns and not mention the potential downside.

But when a series of banking investments start pointing to a potential financial disaster Esther has to come out of the shell she's constructed around her life. To truly help prevent this looming and imminent threat she'll need to let someone into her life - someone who can help her get the word out before it is too late.

The Domino Effect takes the reader into the high risk world of speculative investing where everything is one trade away from bringing down not only a bank or a nation but the world's financial infrastructure. This is a world most are unfamiliar with so this is an enlightening reading experience even as the suspense builds with each flip of the page.

This was my latest up all night reading choice which may or may not be a good thing if you plan on getting a good night's sleep in. This is an excellent book if you are looking for suspense with a twist. Even as Esther attempts to prevent the disaster she sees coming someone is determined to stop her - silencing her voice permanently before she can reveal their darkest secrets.

The Domino Effect is completely different from the prior two books. This is the story of a brilliant woman with a pain-filled past and present who is aware of a looming economic crisis. As the lead analyst at a colossal bank, she has access to information and the ability to piece together that data to see that the crisis is imminent and will be catastrophic. As she becomes surrounded by a slowly growing cast that believes in what she sees and knows, she begins to realize she doesn't have to be alone anymore. The plot twists and turns with the question of will Esther be able to protect those who take her advice from the projected crash. There's an even greater question of will she be able to abort or short-circuit that crash. Add in a slim thread of romance, and this is an enjoyable read for those who like romantic suspense with a twist.

Esther Larson is a top risk analyst for one of the country's top banks. Every since 2008 she has been researching. She realizes she has uncovered a list of many different things that falling one after the other, like domino's, will make what looked like happened in 2008 seem minor. As her employer makes more and more "risky" decisions, she realizes there is something she needs to do and she starts speaking out. She starts broadcasting what she sees coming and what people can do to help themselves.

Craig Wessex comes into Esther's life when she is struggling with all this. He is a former accountant and is there to encourage Esther along. Esther is there to encourage his two daughters who are upset with their father and the change he is making in his life. When Esther was thinking she had no friends, when she thought she had no one to be there for her, her friends surround her and help her as she speaks up and encourages her along the way.

Davis Bunn has written a remarkable book. He takes the book of Esther where she states "for such a time as this" and weaves it all throughout the story. This is a book that you can pick up and not want to put down until you are done. While it seems the financial aspects of the story might seem to hard to understand, it's written in such a way it's simple and easy to understand what is happening. It also makes you wonder what is happening in the financial world, and if something like what is talked about in this book could really happen.

2008 was the peak of the financial crisis. As we looked around us, so many of our friends were losing jobs, losing pensions, and losing homes. It has been thought of as the worst financial crisis in the United States since the Great Depression. Since then, much of the financial industry has been reevaluated and looked at more closely. Davis Bunn's new book The Domino Effect was a surprisingly good read about a very real problem that could very well surface again.

Esther Larsen is a powerful risk analyst. Her job is to determine if the risks the large bank she works for are wise, strategic moves. All her life, she's been able to see numbers and the economy and the story that it tells. Because of her gift of being able to read how the markets are moving, she's slowly begun to discover something amiss.

Her natural inclination is to keep quiet and keep her head down. As she studies further, the reality of another catastrophic financial collapse weighs heavy on her. She realizes that she must not stay silent and do something about what she's discovered, even it means she must do it alone.

I was pleasantly surprised by how I was quickly drawn into to the story. As an orphan accustomed to going it alone, Esther is surprised by how her church family rallies around her, especially as the deception and greed involving her discovery grow to a potentially murderous conclusion. I was rooting for Esther and hoping that she would, by the grace of God, do the right thing.

Debs Dozen: A brilliant analyst, two scheming scoundrels, the worlds financial markets at stake.

Esther Larsen, a reticent but brilliant financial analyst, is very troubled. She and her team are the best and she is better than the best. She believes she has discovered a plot by her banks greedy president and its prime investor to make the bank rich at the cost of the crash of the worlds financial markets. Esther has never opened up to anyone other than her brother. But her brother is hospitalized in a fugue state and not expected to recover. Esther finally decides she has to share what she has found with the closest friends she has. What she discloses starts a domino cascade of events that could affect us all!

Davis Bunn has succeeded in producing a novel that will entrance, enthrall, entertain, and educate you while simultaneously scaring you to death at the possibilities. In todays computer-driven world, where financial transactions take place in nanoseconds, the plot could very well happen. As always, Daviss characters are well-developed, but flawed. Youll love seeing Esther start to bloom from a personal as well as intellectual standpoint. Youll love all his auxiliary characters too. The Domino Effect is one of those suspense-filled books youll not want to put down until the nail-biting finish. In my opinion, The Domino Effect is Daviss best book to date. Five stars from memy husband rated the book four-and-a-half stars because the story came to an end.

Davis Bunn, also known to fantasy and speculative fiction readers as Thomas Locke, is a prolific (over seven million copies sold) and much-awarded author. He has received the Christys Lifetime Achievement Award among many others. While he and his wife, Isabella, live part-time in Florida, he is also a Writer-in-Residence at Regents Park College, University of Oxford. Davis graciously shares his experience and wisdom at a variety of writers conferences around the country.

Bethany House provided me a copy of this book although I was in no way obligated to write a favorable review.
