Cindy5 Stars Out Of 5The Divine RomanceMarch 14, 2017CindyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am amazed and puzzled by the reviews that state that The Divine Romance is "not biblically sound" or that Gene Edwards has written a book that is somehow in competition with the Bible. Any books written by Gene Edwards lead the reader straight to God and His love for for His creation. The Divine Romance pulled together the Old Testament and the New Testament in a way that gave a picture of a spiritual truth that many Christians miss: God had a plan from the beginning. He knew the choices Adam and Eve would make before they ever made them. He wanted to insure that His human creation would be able to have a relationship with Him and through the work on the cross, Jesus' sacrifice on the cross provided the way to have that relationship. It was not that God "needed" His creation, it was not that God was "missing" something or "incomplete"....but He has said, in His word, that we are the apple of His eye....in Psalm 139 His word talks about how He pursues His children....no matter where we go, how far we run, what ever has pulled us away, He does not stop pursuing us...Why? Because He loves us. Because for some reason, He chooses to care about us and experiences joy and pleasure when we FREELY choose to love Him, praise Him and have a relationship with Him, not because He has to but because He chooses to, just as He has given us a choice on whether or not to love Him. The picture of the angels running into the past, present, and future, to bring every "idol" that would ever pull His Bride away from Him, to bring those idols to the cross speaks of His plan, of His love, of Christ's sacrifice, and how NOTHING can separate us from the love of God....it is only by our own choice to not accept HIS precious, beautiful gift. Does this book make God appear weak? Only to those who do not understand the concept of servanthood or the true power of love. Ultimately, the Bible IS a love story. God's love story for His creation. It shows that the way to someones heart is not fear and intimidation, but instead, through love and sacrifice...There has been no greater sacrifice, than that of Christ....As far as the Lord growing weary....the Bible itself talks of God being slow to anger...of having become weary with the Israelites complaining about having manna to eat instead of other foods...or of being a jealous God...weary is a description of an emotion, not a physical state...The Divine Romance helps readers to understand God's grace and His indescribable love for His children. If you can receive that message, it should comfort you, and humble you to the point where you recognize there is no greater love than God's love for you...and nothing else will ever satisfy. Just saying.
Debi SBoise, IDAge: 45-54Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5AWFUL - NOT BIBLICAL SOUND AT ALL!July 31, 2012Debi SBoise, IDAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I am so sad so many people are reading this book & stating it is the best book since the Bible.
I feel it is not biblical. In only the 2nd sentence in chapter 1 it reads "The Lord had grown quite weary..." He was weary? I do not think so! He is all powerful. He does not sleep. He DOES NOT become weary!
Then no farther into the book, in the first paragraph of page 4 it reads "He was searching for something..." I got the impression the author was indicating God wasn't sure what he wanted. He was "searching?" I don't think so. I do not find anywhere in the Bible in which it says God created us to make him complete or didn't know what to do; therefore, he created us! Are you kidding? He is complete in himself.
I was very, very disappointed this is even being sold as truth at CBD.

I grew up in the Word and have been a Christian since the age of 9. Yet, Gene describes our creation and other areas of the Word in such a way that it all just makes even more sense. Talk about true 'light bulb' moments!! You can't go wrong with this book. Just be ready to give yourself some time to read it. It requires some time to digest all you read. Enjoy :)
