Publisher's Description

In this gripping conclusion to The Alliance, nearly six months have passed since Leora Ebersole’s Old Order Mennonite community fled to the mountains for refuge after an attack destroyed the power grid and altered life as they knew it. Since then, Leora has watched and waited for news of Moses Hughes, the young Englischer pilot who held off invading looters long enough for everyone to escape. Unsure Moses even survived, Leora has begun to warm to the affections of Jabil Snyder, who has courted her patiently. But she struggles to see herself as the bishop’s wife, especially when she learns that Moses is alive and has now joined a local militia.

An unexpected encounter in the woods deepens Leora’s crisis, as does a terrifying new threat that brings Moses’ militia into the community’s shaky alliance with the few Englischers left among them. When long-held beliefs are once again put to the test, Leora wrestles with the divide between having faith and taking action. Just how much will her shifting landscape change her?

Editorial Reviews

Petersheim completes the tale begun in The Alliance in this entertaining post-apocalyptic romantic adventure. After an electromagnetic pulse permanently changed modern life, Moses Hughes, an Englischer pilot who helped Leora Ebersole’s Old Order Mennonite community escape to the mountains, can only hope that her new beau, Jabil Snyder, will make Leora happy. Jabil, the bishop’s nephew and heir apparent, is a good, kind man and, despite Leora’s lingering feelings for Moses, she agrees to marry Jabil. But when Moses, who left the camp after delivering Leora to safety, returns to the Mennonite compound, life quickly becomes complicated and all are forced to face the reality of their feelings. This love triangle is set against the backdrop of a fight for survival, battling nature as well as other humans. The Agricultural Resource Commission, a quasi-government agency, is attempting to violently round up those still living and enslave them in work camps. The Alliance is necessary reading to fully appreciate the characters and plot of this sequel. Petersheim invites readers to contemplate the question of what really matters when nearly all earthly objects are lost.
Intriguing plot, character depth, and riveting storytelling capture biblical end-time possibilities amid romance, grief, forgiveness, trust, and why-God-allows-suffering issues. Discussion questions follow. Recommend to fans of well-written Christian fiction.

The completion of an outstanding look at the possible realities of a global apocalypse held me captive until the last sentence. The Old Order Mennonite community stands to loose everything even their faith at times. Others continue to defend anything they own from marauders. This penetrating novel illustrates what could happen to our world when all the ordinary modern conveniences are stripped away. Who will survive? What will people sacrifice in order to stay alive? Inner hearts are revealed in actions never taken before.

I highly recommend The Divide by Jolina Petersheim.

I received a copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

The Divide is a story about survival. The good the bad and the very very ugly of the survival after the EMP in the Mennonite Community) (what is an EMP - get the book and read about it) . It answers a lot of questions but it also starts a bunch more of them too. This is about Moses, Jabil and Sal and what GOD has called each of them to save and the book is about the journeys of each to the end where we would see if each would fulfill what GOD had designed for them to fulfill. will they be able to save those whom they loved and who needed them or would one or two of them feel like they could not do it? I tell you what, it is so much worth it to find out which one it is.... there are so many surprises in this book you will truly kick yourself if you don't find out what they are. The twists and turns are so real you need a Dramamine. Pay for the ticket and join the ride...........I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Publisher and NetGalley; all the opinions in this review are all my own.

In the conclusion of the story that began in "The Alliance", we pick up some time after the Mennonite community has become established in their new location, in the mountains. Leora Ebersole is beginning to grow very weary under the combined pressure of caring for her family and her worriesabout what has happened to Moses Hughes, the pilot who crashed in their original commune. Meawhile, Jabil is happy to step into the gap Moses' absence has created, and he and Leora grow closer.

As the world continues to shift based on the new "rules", the divide between previous loyalties and relationships become even moretenuous. It's almost impossible to know who to trust, and Leora makes serious choices about things she never thought she'd have to face. And, who will she finally choose - Jabil, or Moses? Will the new community survive? Can Leora live with her secrets?

This two book series was enjoyable and interesting. I have found that as a reviewer it's challenging to expand too much more on the storylines in this book, without giving any spoilers! Also, please note that this is definitely a sequel that you will want to read the books in order; I didn't feel this was a standalone novel. So if you haven't already, make sure to pick up "The Alliance" first!

This book was given to me by Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
