The Decision is the first book in Wanda Brunstetter's Prairie State Friends Series.
Jonah Miller is left at the altar, when his fiancees's dead husband suddenly appears. Left heartbroken by this broken romance, Jonah moves from Pennsylvania to Arthur Illinois to start over by opening up his own buggy shop.
Elaine Schrock has been courting Jonah for about a year, when Elaine's grandfather suddenly dies from a heart attack, Elaine is left to care for her grandmother, Edna, who has been diagnosed with diabetes and dementia. Feeling obligated to care for her grandmother, Elaine tell Jonah that he is free to find someone else and go on with his life.
Will Jonah finally find true and lasting love after he has failed to do so three times. What kind of obstacles and changes will Elaine be faced with, as her grandmother's memory declines and her health deteriorates.
I found The Decision to be well written and very heartfelt. Anyone who has been faced to be the caregiver to someone will most certainly feel for Elaine and what she has to face by taking care of her grandmother. I would highly recommend The Decision not only for it's content but also how well Wanda Brunstetter presented what a caregiver has to face.
There are also two recipes from the book included in the back. Elaine's Sugar Free Apple Pie and Grandma's Sour Cream Peach Pie
MarieOhioGender: female1 Stars Out Of 5Huge disappointmentDecember 2, 2015MarieOhioGender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 2Meets Expectations: 2Very disappointed with this story. ***spoiler warning***
Two people who love each other and are willing to sacrifice for one another yet she is unwilling to accept his help. How stupid of Elaine! Jonah's decision to marry Sara was not based on love or the leading of the Holy Spirit. He stilled loved Elaine and instead of being patient and heeding the advice of his family he marries Sara. I totally disagree that God was leading him to marry Sara.. The Holy Spirit does not answer our prayers through a fleece. He speaks to our hearts and confirms that sometimes through the voice and wisdom of others. He married Sara because he wanted a wife and children so desparately and he was unwilling to be patient and wait. He and Sara did not really wait and seek God about their decision.

Tina W5 Stars Out Of 5What a wonderful read? Wanda E. Brunstetter has out done herself on this book.June 30, 2015Tina WQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Have you ever been face with a decision to make? I am sure you have for every day we decision but the decisions that stay with us are the ones that are life decisions. Decisions on a health issue. How to face that health issue? Deciding to enter college? Deciding to take a job? Decision of moving to a new town? The list can go on and on.
"The Decision" talks a lot about issues an everyday person faces in their life time, but like any issue we face there is always a DECISION that has to be made, that decision affect more than just the person facing the issue at hand, it affects those around them.
When making a promise to dying her grandpa, Elaine Schrock didn't know that will be faced with many decisions ahead of her. Now her grandma is health issues, will Elaine be able to keep her promise that she made to him?
Jonah Miller was left at the altar in Pennsylvania, which lead to him making a decision over a year ago to move to Illinois to be closer to his twin sister and to start fresh. He now owns his own business and property. He has been courting Elaine for a year. Will they marry??
Poor Grandma Edna Schrock is having to coup with the loss of her beloved husband, while still making money on the side hosting tour dinners at her house that she did with her husband. During her first tour dinner without her husband, we learn she's having issues remembering simple details and Elaine is picking up the pieces to have the tour dinner run smoothly. What are Edna's health issues?? Will the tour dinners continue?
Some may find "The Decision" depressing, it is needed to set the mood, for it is not your normal happy romance Amish book. That does not mean that "The Decision" does not have a great message to be told, for it does! Again Wanda E. Brunstetter done an excellent job tackling the health issues that some of us may face in life. I loved "The Decision" and plan on reading the next book in the series, "The Gift".
I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. No money was exchanged. This is my honest review in my own words.

The story is not necessarily a "happy-ever-after" one; instead it deals with several difficult real-life issues. In many ways it is rather slow-moving and just sort of flows into a non-climactic conclusion.
The book does include many of the usual authentic elements of good Amish fiction readers can expect in Wanda's works. Fans of this genre should enjoy this story.
Thanks to Wanda and her publisher for providing a copy of The Decision in exchange for my honest review.
