However, I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns the author wove into the plot.
John Michaels owns a small business and has a family, but hes always been haunted by the fact that he went out of town the day of his college fiancs death. Wondering what would happen if he had it all to do over again, he suddenly finds himself living his life twenty years ago on the day of Kims disappearance.
The interesting thing about this scenario is that people he didnt know, or didnt know each other in his real life back then, play a major part in this bizarre rerun of his life. Hes convinced its all supposed to mean something and the clues are most likely pointing him to solving Kims murder, but putting it all together is an ever increasingly difficult puzzle.
Author Bill Garrison kept me guessing as to what was going to happen as John encountered one mystery after another. He does well with capturing the emotion of a character caught in an impossible situation no one would ever believe while missing his real life wife and kids.
There were times when I had to go back and reread to put the characters in their proper perspective within the timeline of the story since they were juxtaposed into different positions in Johns life during his time travel experiences. Conversely, this added to the intricacy of the plot.
I really liked the ending because it was unexpected, but not unrealistic. John Michaels also gains insight into his current life, his relationship with his wife, and himself gleaned from his time travel experiences.
I would recommend this book to any reader who likes a fast-paced mystery and/or has a fascination with the concept of time travel.
K4 Stars Out Of 5Fast-Paced and SurprisingOctober 22, 2014KQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4The Day She Died is a unique, fast-paced ride full of twists and turns that keep you guessing! You are dropped right into the center of the mystery that has tormented 45-year-old John Michaels since college: what happened to the love of his life the day she went missing? When he wakes up twenty years younger back in his college dormroom, he's given the rare chance of saving his love and changing the course of his--and her--life. But more secrets surround that fateful day than even he expected.
I truly enjoyed this book. Just when I thought I had the mystery solved, another twist sends me spinning in an entirely different direction as I try to figure out a new secret. It all culmanates in a fast-paced ending that I wouldn't have pictured when I first picked the book up. And can I just say that this girl in Alabama (previously from Oklahoma) loves that the setting surrounds the OU Sooners and the Red River Rivalry?
Good job, Garrison! Keep it up!

Reader4 Stars Out Of 5Hang on tight to follow this mid-life crisisOctober 15, 2014ReaderForty-year-old John Michaels, owner of a coffee shop, lives with his wife and two young children. Until he wakes up in the past his college apartment on the day his girlfriend goes missing.
As he re-lives this day he looks at events from a different perspective and makes an attempt to save his girl and change the future. But its not to be. His attempt sends him further into the past to high school. He re-meets people hed forgotten about but his forty-year-old mind knows are connected to the disappearance and presumed murder.
Johns troubles dont melt away when he returns home its been six months to him but overnight to his family. Secrets a long time in the making begin to leak out. They affect his current life and also point the way to solving the crime committed twenty years ago.
While I found the story interesting and kept turning the pages, a high school sports veteran or Oklahoma Sooners fan will find more to enjoy.
