This is the kind of book that can change your life! As any one who has truly read and appreciated this work will probably say, "Bonhoeffer's work leaves a permanent and an indellible print on the mind." Be forewarned! "The Cost of Discipleship" will shake you out of your lax and largely tradition-laden views of Christ and the Faith, and further spurn you on towards a renewed and vibrant maturing faith.

This is by far the most awesome book that I have ever read. The things that Bonhoeffer says in this book really made me search deeper into Scripture and helped me completely dismiss beliefs that I had before. One such belief is that it is possible to lose salvation. In this book, Bonhoeffer opposes this view, taking the side that just as Christ's death was once and for all, so also is our salvation permanent. This caused me to search Scriptures that deal with this highly debated issue. I found in Hebrews the undebatable truth that salvation is permanent. In fact, I also found that the word "backslide" is only used in the Old Testament, because since sacrifices under the old covenant were never perfect, they could only provide a temporary covering of sin, but Christ's blood, being perfect and pure and holy is a permanent atonement for our sins. I suggest you buy and read this book as soon as you can.
