I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this book. I was more than pleasently surprised. Dr. Maier has done a wonderful job of creating a work of fiction while tying in some real pieces of history. I enjoyed looking up some of the real places stated in the book just to satisfy my own curiosity. I highly enjoyed the way he built the characters in the novel and the twists and turns that they had to go through to find and protect the codex. My favorite part of all was the debate that Dr. Maier so creatively wrote between Dr. Weber and Abbas al-Rashid. If ever a debate like that could take place today I would hope it would be similar to how it was written in this book. For all those readers who like these kind of stories I highly recommend this book. I look forward to ordering and reading more of Dr.Maier's work in the future.
I was not at all surprised that this book, like A Skeleton in God's Closet and More Than a Skeleton, kept my attention from start to finish. I wanted to read it in one sitting but had to break it into two very enjoyable evenings. If you ever have a chance to hear Dr. Maier speak, or to read any of his other books, don't miss it!
