KristiAge: 35-44Gender: Female1 Stars Out Of 5Translation is trash and the study portions earn no gold starJanuary 21, 2023KristiAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1This review was written for The Complete Jewish Study Bible, Imitation Leather, Dark Blue.I've been reading this bible for 7 months I'm in 2 Chronicles and 1 Corinthians. The New Testament has become unreadable. The Lord has not appointed these two men to translate the Bible.
I would have never given money to this Bible if I knew they removed Christ from year dating. They use Before the Common Era as opposed to Before Christ, and Common Era as opposed to Anno Domini meaning the year of our Lord. This is worse than unsaved people calling Christmas a holiday.
Rabbi quotes. There are a fair number of Rabbi notes, but what this Bible doesn't explain is that the modern day Pharisees are the Orthodox Jews that they are quoting. The Talmud the Rabbis are using here in the study notes Jesus corrected them for some of it referring to it as tradition. As an example they should mention these Rabbis have to put on their right shoe left shoe and go back to tie the right or it s a sin. A top scholar Nehemiah Gordon a Karaite Jew which means a Jew that adheres only to the Old Testament said of the title Rabbi and I quote the title implies a teacher with God-given authority to interpret scripture for others. That's the same authority as the Pope. All this information should be shared with Christians to rightly divide truth and pray for the Jewish people. I thank God I was lead to do reading outside this Bible and learn the truth.
The real reason I bought this Bible is because I was under the impression the real names of God would be used. They are not. Let me repeat the real name of God the Father is not used. Long story short around 300 A D a Rabbi was burned by Rome for using the name of God. He was rapped in a scroll and wet cloth was stuffed inside to make it last longer. The Jews decided not to use the name of God, teach it is too holy to be spoken and they will speak it when the messiah comes. That is why your Bible does not have God s real name. This Jewish Bible acknowledges the fact it was a made up rule after Jesus ascended into Heaven and yet continues to conceal the name. So you'll keep reading Adonai which is My Lord instead of Jehovah Yehovah or Yahweh whatever you believe or as it's written Y H V H. Just to be clear throughout the entire Bible God s real name is actually used but not translated for you. Around the destruction of the temple the Jews banned His name. Yet this Bible knowing we are Christians decide to follow the example of the Pharisees those that rejected Jesus and teach us to do the same. Fun fact adonai was ascribed to Ba al as well, so this title is not a God of Heaven alone name.
According to this Bible Paul is prideful. Using pride in any sense should be a no no to Christians. In the King James Bible Paul says in Roman 15 17 that he may glory through Jesus Christ. If you look it up in Greek he said glory in Jesus Christ. Complete Jewish Bible says reason to be proud of my service to God. Glory through Jesus Christ as opposed to be proud of my service. As the proverb says pride comes before destruct and this Incomplete Jewish Bible agrees pride before destruction.
Trust God doctrine has gone way too far. Using the King James Version as a reference point there are 7 Aramaic words in the Old Testament that they translated to English as trust. None of those words actually mean trust. In the New Testament 4 Greek words have all be translated to trust. None of those words actually mean trust. Trust is a modern day English abstract concept that people love to say. These translators decided to replace faith and believe with trust. The King James Version uses trust 188 times. The New International Version uses it 170 times. Complete Jewish Bible 510. I regret using a pencil to scratch it out. King James for faith used 336. New International for faith being used 458. Complete Jewish Bible 237. Believe is just as bad. They are so committed to this made up doctrine they do not care if it even makes sense. This Bible states the Holy Spirit cleansed Gentile hearts by trust. say what. Another great quote one whose trust is weak only eats vegetables. According to the translators prophecy works by trust. Our beloved John 3 16 is now trust in God saves you not faith.
The Bible translators just pop popular doctrine in place of real scripture at will not understanding its true meaning. For example they took a resurrection from the dead and turned it into a pajama party. Mark 14 51 we read in a reliable Bible that there is a young man in linen following Jesus. If you look this up in Greek it was bleached linen and very costly at that. One of the top ancient Greek scholars of our day Rick Renner said this costly linen was grave clothes. This word sindon in the Bible is only used to describe this young man s clothes and also what they wrapped Jesus in for burial. The Complete Jewish Bible shamefully translates it as pajamas. Clearly this man was resurrected and following Jesus who they were treating as a false prophet. It makes the story that much better. The Bible says the disciples fled this man did not. There is a popular made up teaching this was John who changed into his pajamas like a child after eating. Nice they want you to believe Jesus had a childish pajama party and didn't change his clothes with the disciples. You cannot change scripture to suit popular doctrine.
There is much more but its too much to write. They changed Paul back to Saul. Paul being Roman should have had 3 names his name nick name and family name. Either Paul changed it himself or it was his nick name. Saul means to ask in Hebrew but in Greek it means promiscuous. He likely changed it because he was going out amongst the Gentiles. Also Paul calls himself the least of all the apostles and Paul in Hebrew Greek and Roman means small or humble. This name Paul probably made him happy. These translators have no understanding why the change they just did whatever.
I am very disappointed because I really like the concept of this Bible and the layout is nice despite blurry printing here and there. The translation is not inspired by God nor the notes. If a baby Christian get a hold of this Bible I think that is a very sad thought. For me this Bible will collect dust. I cannot in good conscious recommend this or give this away to anyone. You would be better off to purchase a book on ancient Jewish customs and stick with a reliable translation. There is no epic information in here that cannot be found elsewhere. -
Tom5 Stars Out Of 5Going Deeper...Growing CloserDecember 22, 2022TomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for The Complete Jewish Study Bible, Genuine Calfskin leather black. This translation of the Bible exceeded my expectations. Context, culture, and curiosity, all come together when reading, and studying in this Bible. The notes, articles, words, and footnotes ALL help to put me closer to walking in the shoes of both the writers of the books, the recipients, and a closer walk and witness for ADONAI. Highly recommended
