Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and have been transformed into three major motion pictures.
Pauline Baynes has produced hundreds of wonderful illustrations for the seven books in The Chronicles of Narnia. In 1968 she was awarded the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal for her outstanding contribution to children's literature.
Shamuel2 Stars Out Of 5Interesting story - yet take much caution!January 6, 2016ShamuelQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Once, when I had read the chronicle almost to the end, I was thrilled. The stories in the chronicles were surprising and imaginative.
HOWEVER, now I know that in the ending book of the Chronicle, author C. S. Lewis gives dubious teachings that totally contradict with the whole teaching of the Bible.
The chronicle, written by the well-know Christian figure, very explicitly claims in the last book ('The final battle of Narnia') that Aslan (as you may have heard, there are obviously clear references to Jesus throughout the Chronicles) and "Tars" (some weird "monster god") are the same.
Sounds tough, right? Hard to believe it, since so many believers have shared it with their children? Here's the translation of that claim found in chapter 15, with my translation from the Finnish version: "[Aslan says:] My child, all that you've made to serve Tars, I take it as your service to me". That's some bizarre teaching! So, it clearly states that believing in any other god is the same as believing in Jesus Christ and His Father. (If you dont believe me on this, you might take a look at it yourself). So Lewis totally opposes the message of the Bible and the Gospels.
What's more, this claim is intentionally in the book. A friend of mine has told me about having read an article written by Lewis, the teaching of which was perfectly in line with this incomprehensible distortion of the Word (as you may have noticed, its a seriously twisted form of Matthew 25:40). This is a tough reality, considering that the books (as separate) have sold more than 100 million.

There are a few differences but it was a good read. It does a good job of teaching correct decision making and how God works with individuals as well as teaching biblical truth.

Q: What is meant by "Digest Tradepaper?" Does it refer to the size of the books, or does it mean the books are abridged, or something else?
In this set, the books are numbered in chronological order, instead of the order they were originally written in. They are 5" x 7" high quality paperbacks and are unabridged.
Q: What is the recommended age group for the Narnia series of books? I am thinking of getting the series for my 13 year old granddaughter. Will she like it or think it's too childish?
This collection is recommended for teens.
