Publisher's Description

Miranda did not put adventure on her Christmas list, but thanks to her eighty-five-year-old neighbor Joy, that's exactly what she's getting this year. When Joy tells Miranda that she plans to drive an old RV decked out in Christmas decorations from their Chicago neighborhood to her new retirement digs in Phoenix--in the dead of winter, no less--the much younger Miranda insists that Joy cannot make such a trip by herself. Besides, a crazy trip with Joy would be more interesting than another Christmas home alone. Unemployed and facing foreclosure, Miranda feels she has nothing to lose by packing a bag and heading off to Route 66. But Joy has a hidden agenda for their Christmas joyride--and a hidden problem that could derail the whole venture.

No one captures the heartwarming fun of the Christmas season quite like Melody Carlson. Fasten your seat belt, because it's going to be an exciting ride!

This is a Christmas story about giving to those that need a miracle during the holiday season. It is about Joy and Miranda taking a road trip from Chicago to Phoenix while driving along route 66. From a contest, a few people have asked to have a little Christmas cheer into their lives of family and friends. Along the way Joy has decide to spread the love of Christmas in different ways to those that they have chosen from the contest.

This is a very short read, that will charm your heart and make you realize the blessings that you have in your own life. It will make you think and feel good about giving and not receiving.

I would recommend this book to any age and especially for those that want a good afternoon read that will make you feel good. I enjoyed this book and found the ending not one that you would expect when you start reading. I always like this author and again she did not disappoint and gives a great read.

The Christmas Joy Ride was definitely a joy to read. The cover caught my attention first. A Christmas decorated RV, lit up and driving down the road. We have a Class C RV and love to camp so I had to read what it was about. Take an almost 86 year old lady named Joy, add a friend and neighbor named Miranda and an RV that hasn't been used since Joy's husband passed away, and you get the makings of an adventure that is not to be missed. Joy has a web site that Miranda helped her set up. She has a contest and she picks six "winners" in which to spread Christmas joy. Joy is moving across country to be near her sons and live in an assisted living apartment. She sells her house and loads up bins of Christmas decorations she has collected over many many years. Her sons think she is flying to her destination, but she decides to drive the RV instead. When Miranda finds out she is appalled at the idea of Joy going alone. So Joy invites her along. Their plan is to visit the six winners as they travel and spread Christmas cheer

I throughly enjoyed "traveling along with them" and experiencing all the fun, humor, adventure and even a few mishaps. It will put you in the mood to celebrate the pure joy of the Christmas season and think of those that need some extra cheer in their lives for whatever misfortunes have befallen them.

My goodness, this was a cute book! I dont know what my favorite part was! I loved Joy, her giving heart and her desire to bless others for Christmas. The beginning to middle was so sweet and I had a feeling that the last half would have a bit of romance in it. The Christmas Joy Ride was such a fun plot and almost like a Hallmark Christmas movieonly better!

Reading a Christmas novella by Melody Carlson has become a tradition in recent years. A tradition that I have come to eagerly anticipate I might add. When the book arrives in my home I begin plotting my evening of hot tea, comfy clothes and chair, soft blanket, and uninterrupted time to devour the book.

This year's story is entitled The Christmas Joy Ride. When the story begins we meet Miranda and Joy who are neighbors and friends. Joy is an eighty-five-year-old woman that loves to spread cheer through her Christmas blog. Miranda is a young recently divorced woman that is about to lose her home.

Joy's two sons have decided that it would be best for her to sell her home and move closer to them. She has conceded to their request but she plans on taking one last trip to spread some Christmas Joy along the way. In a fun twist Joy talks Miranda into coming with her. They plan to head out on Route 66 in Joy's motor home and make their way from Chicago to Phoenix with a few stops along the way.

I happen to live along Route 66 so it was fun to imagine these two traveling through my territory. As with all of Melody Carlson's stories the important part isn't the actual trip but the people they meet along the way. Melody has once again brought to life quirky characters that reach out of the page and touch your heart. When I turned the final page I was wishing that there were more Joys in the world. The book is a good reminder that we should all strive to reach out to those in need and spread a little cheer when we have the opportunity.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
