This hymnal is wonderful. It has transformed my devotional time at home. I play the piano and so I appreciate how this book stays open without having to "crack" the binding. The songs are indexed in a number of ways that make them easy to find, whether you have a particular hymn in mind, or whether you're looking for a hymn that fits a particular verse in the Scriptures, or topic, or time of year in the Church calendar. I use this hymnal everyday.

We were looking for a hymnbook/songbook to use as part of our family devotions. We did not want one full of only contemporary emotional choruses, but we also did not want to sing only the great hymns and neglect some of the newer and also wonderful hymns and choruses. We did not want a hymnbook/songbook full of modern updates, spiritual correctness, and one full of trying to please everyone while changing doctrine and neglecting the Bible truths. This book is great. While a few songs were slightly changed in a word or two, it is much better than many of the newer songbooks. I do wish there were more than two verses of the Star-Spangled Banner, though, as most Americans seem to only know the first verse. I am glad we purchased this book, and hope to use it for many, many years.

Our church has moved from the UMC, and wanted to replace our older hymnals. After reviewing many, we chose this hymnal. The traditional hymns, in many instances, have been transposed to a lower key to be easier for singing. There are plenty of newer hymns as well. The sheet music is crisply printed on quality paper, so it is easy to read for musicians as well as vocalists.

The hymnbook does not contain responsive readings, or other text, so we are pulling that material directly from scripture as a bulletin insert. We are very pleased with this hymnal. It is also available in a pianist's edition in a looseleaf binder.

I was impressed by the range of hymns in this hymnal, especially some of the older "forgotten" ones not always found in modern hymnals. I also liked the scriptural citations provided for every hymn. This is half the price of comparable books.

Haven't used Church Year Index yet, but can see that it could be valuable.
