Having escaped the Authority City with a group of Seers, Remko becomes their tactical leader. Together, they attempt perilous rescue missions within the City to extract those who are destined for execution.
Their arch enemy is the new leader, Authority President, Damien Gold whose claims to be restoring harmony and peace to the City are just strategies to deceive the people and keep them in submission.
Remko must get victory over his fears as mistakes and defeat begin to drain their hope. The Authority and City Watch soldiers close in on them and even capture one of his family. The plot is extremely intriguing and addictive, and the characters are complex and appealing. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy futuristic novels and to those who like to delve deeper into a storys meaning. There is much for the reader to ponder within the pages of this remarkable book. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.
nkwbookreviewer5 Stars Out Of 5Book 2 or Standalone, 5 Star ReadSeptember 12, 2016nkwbookreviewerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5" The Calling" is Book Two book in author Rachelle Dekker's Seer's series. This is a 319 page futuristic Christian novel published by Tyndale. It follows after "The Choosing" Book One, but it can be read as a standalone. Author Dekker's is the oldest daughter of best selling Christian author Ted Dekker and definitely has also received the gift of writing.
This is the tale of Remko Brant, leader of the Seer's. He is husband to Carrington, the main character in Book One. They have a young daughter. The story takes place in the future, the year 2259. In this futuristic age things are vastly different. There are rules and regulations which have create rebellion among the people. Christians are killed because of their belief. Society is extremely different and dangerous.
Author Dekker has a flair for writing. Her unique characters are well defined and interact well with each other. In the front of the book is a listing of all characters to help readers keep them straight. They are not shallow characters but have personalities and deep convictions. Their dialogue flows without a hitch. The storyline is well written, and the plot is organized and imaginative. There is action, adventure, intrigue and inspiration. Best of all, author Dekker provides surprises with her many twists in the book. It is a fast paced, page turning novel.
I would recommend this to anyone that likes Christian fantasy, futuristic, or action adventure books. Fans of Ted Dekker and young adults will really enjoy it. I rated it a 5 out of 5 stars. I received a copy of this book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.
MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Fear the Future?August 30, 2016MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5The futuristic sage continues with this second installment of the story, focusing on the group that follows Aaron, a representative of Christ, as they attempt to escape the Authoritys clutches. Remko and Carrington are now married, but their love faces conflicts as their lives face danger. They are also targeted in the Authoritys attempt to suppress rebellion. What is the huge structure they find hidden outside the city? Whats with the literal brainwashing? Who can be trusted? This book deals much with fear. Its cliffhanger ending leaves the reader longing for a final resolution. I received this novel from Book Fun Club in exchange for an honest review.
DonnaGeorgiaAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Distopian story lineJuly 20, 2016DonnaGeorgiaAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is the second book written by Rachelle Dekker in the Seer's series. Again as in the first book The Chosen, the author has done a spectacular job with The Calling. A dystopian story line with the setting being in the year of 2259. Her talent for writing is amazing as is her imagination for story telling and in depth and interesting characters. This one ends with a cliffhanger. Can't wait to read the third book. I recommend you read book one The Chosen first as The Calling picks up right where The Chosen ended.
Remko is now married to Carrington, the main character in the first book, with a young daughter. He has fallen into the role of being the the leader of the Seers who are the followers of Aaron and his Father . Remko struggles with his fears and doubts causing him to rethink what his calling really is. Will Remko surrender to have the freedom from his fears being offered to him by God? I think most of us can identify with fear.
We are introduced to new characters as well as the return of characters from book one. This book gives us more insight into Remko.
Damien Gold is the new president of The Authority. He is ruthless and wants to control the people of the city who are afraid of him.
This story is full of action with twists and turns. A search for the truth and peace. Danger and suspense. A story that draws you in and won't let go. Enthralling.
I highly recommend this book. A fantastic read.

KrisFairfax, VAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Fabulous Futuristic NovelJuly 15, 2016KrisFairfax, VAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What an incredible novel! First though, let me say that this is the second book in the Seers series by Rachelle Dekker and it is probably very helpful to read the first book, The Choosing first! Unfortunately, I did not and although I was able to follow the story, it probably would have been even better had I gone in order! I had to look back at the list of characters in the front (which I was really glad to have) several times.
But, what a great novel! I quickly found myself totally immersed in the story. Remko Brant is a Seer, a husband, a father and a fighter. But he hasnt quite learned to let it go and surrender to follow Aaron completely like his wife (Aaron the man who had won Remkos wifes loyalty so deeply that he had to wonder if she would follow her own husband.)
The Calling takes place in the future the year 2259. There are lots of rules and rebellion and society is very different. People are being killed for following Christ. This is an adrenaline-full, quick paced, sweaty-palm, enthralling book which I recommend. I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion.
